I've done a bit more exercising in the last week or so, and am a bit frustrated with the HRM's counts.
This morning I walked a warm up mile (mostly flat, but some good uphills and a downhill), then jogged the same mile a second time, then walked with occasional sprints (trying to keep my HR in the 160s) the same mile a third time. It claims for 49 minutes of work, I burned about 632 calories.
The HRMs numbers always seem high. Do I need to calculate what I'd have burned simply by sitting on the couch, and subtract? Perhaps later today, I'll wear the thing while I play video games, or take a nap, and see what it says.
Or maybe I should just stop worrying about the numbers, and worry more about being out there doing something in the first place.

I think that your HRM exaggerates your calories burned. But I also don't know what you weigh, so it is possible that you are burning that many calories, but even then it seems like you wouldn't burn 632 calories in 49 minutes. I burn about 80 calories/mile when I run (and weigh 113 pounds) based on my GPS watch with HRM.

Over the time I've used and posted about this, I am pretty sure it is being kind to me -- I just need to know how to convert into "real burn".
I'm doing a test right now. Resting HR is approximately 95 (prior to sitting down, I was active in the kitchen, so it may not be a usual rest). I'll let it go until I have to get up and tend to my project (I'm making cheese), so we'll see what it says.

That seems crazy. Do you have a heart rate monitor with a chest strap or one that just goes on your wrist? I have a Polar FT7 and my resting heart rate is about 65. I just got back in from 1.75 hours of bicycling at an average rate of 121 and it says I burned 662 calories. I'm female and weigh 130.
