Guy: Paul, I'm buying gold. It's really heading up, and 'some analysts' are saying it could hit $15 trillion an ounce.
Me: Did those same analysts predict a median home price of $15 trillion? I think there's a gold bubble. I'd buy FOOD if I were you.
Guy: So, I should buy gold?
Me: No, you should buy food.
Guy: So, you're saying I should buy gold AND silver?
Me: No, you should buy food.
Guy: Fine, I'll buy both gold and silver. By the way, what are you buying right now?
Me: I'm buying food. I bought gold at between $500 and $900 an ounce, and I stopped buying when it went over $1,000. I learned a thing or two buying at the top of the housing bubble.
Guy: Yeah, you're totally spot on with that-- which is why I'm buying gold right now before it hits $15 trillion an ounce.
Me: Yeah, I sold half my gold six months ago and started buying corn and wheat. I think you should consider buying food right now instead of precious metals.
Guy: Yeah, precious metals are awesome right now. Hey- you should get a real car. Why are you driving that old thing?
Me: Um, I've gotta go now. My old thing needs a wash and some gas.

Some people have a hearing problem they can only hear that which agrees with their point of view.
We should all have a years supply of food in our homes. Had 5 days of ice and snow in Texas and when I was able to get to the store the shelves were empty. Imagine what would happen in a real emergency.

I've pretty much kept a good supply of food for many years now. I don't have a years supply but I do keep a couple months worth. I keep enough bottled water for drinking to last about a month (plenty of natural water sources here). It's good policy if supply lines get disrupted. I also try to keep plenty of toilet paper. The amount of commercially stored food is lower because of jit deliveries. Even if supply lines are not disrupted it's good to have plenty of the necessities on hand if you get sick.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think Paul is talking about buying wheat or corn to put in his bunker for the next Apocalypse. I think he is talking about buying corn or wheat or sorghum futures as an investment instead of precious metals. Maybe I'm wrong but I always thought of Paul as more of a dine out kind of guy.

Ahhh, I LOVE the garlic festival, but alas, I am in Chicago. I've been up here trying to liquidate property in Indiana. I'll be back in two weeks. When is Founder's Day?

And FWIW, I've been doing both-- investing, AND buying food for the bunker.

There's a garlic festival every summer in Gilroy, California.
