Yeah I've been reading all about the low end of 'normal' and looking into which supplements I can take.

I'm normal.
So now what, where do you go from here ?
I'm going through some shit too. I'm going into my supplements and my brainwave entrainment. I'll give it 4 months if there's no improvement then off to my doctors I go.

The doctor said I could take Vitamin D to see if there is improvement. She is also willing to prescribe me an anti-depressant.

Vitamin D is a huge massive help, make sure it's 1,000 IU D3 though, cause the other stuff doesn't work.

She told me 5,000 - sounds like a lot. Swamp - I don't know. I guess I've been inside too much.

Me and my sisters take 1,000 IU D3 every winter for SAD. You have to take a large dosage though. Your in AZ, I'm not certain that you'll have to take as much.

That's what I take up here in Canada in the winter, although I didn't this past winter and now I'm paying for it.
If you take that large amount don't do it past I think it's 6 weeks, I can't remember.

She didn't give me a time frame. Just said to use OTC and call her if I wanted to do an anti-depressant.

If you wear protective clothing while you're outside, it can interfere with your body making vitamin D. I think sunscreen can too.
My doctor recently described me vitamin D because my levels were a little low. The prescription is for a high dosage taken once a week.

Hmm. Thyme, did your doctor test for T3, T3 uptake, TBG (thyroid binding globulin), cortisol, B12, and homoscyteine levels? Knowing the values of those can sometimes give us a clue to hidden issues standard tests don't target.

I'm seeing my doctor in September and I'm asking for a complete Thyroid screen. I'm taking Levothyroxine, but a really small dosage 0.075mg.
This past winter done a real number on my system.

It's really disappointing to feel like crap and not have any answers. Maybe it's time to look up a counselor or psychologist. I'd also go to a psychiatrist for anti-depressants - I think they do a better job with it because it's their specialty. I've decided to put a lot of other things on the back burner until my health is under control. Maybe it's time for you to prioritize it as well - being depressed and tired makes everything else so much harder to accomplish.

Thyme, my doc tested my Vit D and iron levels at the same time as the thyroid levels. She gave me a prescription for Vit D, about 100,000 IU a week. Iron was also low, but my thyroid number were too.
I'm trying to be patient and give it time to really see results, so far the best I can tell on a regular basis is that I don't have the urgent NEED to nap on the weekend anymore after something strenuous like taking the elderly aunt to the grocery store for an hour.

Either that, or I will just sink into a deep depression. I haven't decided yet.

Dr. Dragon's prescription involves one of the parties sinking into a deep depression.

I live in Florida and I've been lacking in Vit D levels for a few years now. No idea why, though I'm sure part of it is already having moles removed so I don't like to spend time in the sun without sunscreen.
Make sure it's D3 not D2 (your body has to convert D2 into the usable form D3). If your energy is real low see if B12 helps with that as well. The "normal" levels are so screwed up for B12 - the range is 200 something to 900 something but people that have done real research on it say B12 under 500 is low and you need to supplement. Best part of B12 is you can't OD on it.

I've taken 10,000 IU/day of Vit D for 6+ months (per dr's orders). Unfortunately I didn't absorb any of it because my intestines are crappy. But, I figured I'd mention it to you so you have a guideline. Where are you on the menopause track? I've been in perimenopause for about three years now (on hormones for 2 years) and I'm only 40. I just saw the dr yesterday because I swear the hormones are no longer working and she said ovaries can have acute stages of decline. I'm starting on Effexor (hot flashes, depression, anxiety) to stabilize me until we decide if it is safe to up my hormones. Anyway, I thought I'd mention it. Re: thyroid. The two doctors I've talked with about this both think the normal ranges are a joke. Some people feel good when in the low/normal range, others feel lousy. They both believed in supplementing based on how a person feels rather than their labs. If you try it and things don't improve, THEN you know it isn't your thyroid.

She tested my hormone levels and said they were normal too. I have seen zero-point-zero-zero change in my cycle, so I'm thinking I have some more time on this one. That is my fear - that although I'm in the "normal" range, it is still a drastic decrease from where my levels were up until this point. I've always been hyper and jittery and sleepless. So I'm thinking that my thyroid function decreased to make me normal.

You could always try supplements for thyroids and see if they work. I've been looking into this myself, my mojo went south.
