I am so nervous because my DDs job search isn't going too well. Her resumes are all over the place but no calling. She did get a job for fall at the campus thought so it is good. But now!!!!!!!! She got job for 2-3 days on weekends.
I need/want her to have A JOB! Like a full time paying job. However some of her friends thought they have a job but they got turned down because of the 'whats going on in the world'. I want to ask if you know that some students can't find job really or they are just lazy and that's why?

Pay her to take care of your farm. Rocky! I am sure you are a fine reader but all I wanted toi know if my DDs claims that she CAN't find a job are legit? I do not want her to work for me. I need someone else paying her, not me.

Until you DD finds a job, have her help out on the farm.

Why not hire her? You said you were going to be hiring help for taking care of the farm anyway. So this way, you get hired help you need, she gets a job, and your money doesn't go to strangers. It seems like a win-win to me.
And really, no one but your kid knows if her claims are true.

A full-time job for just the summer when they know she's going to be leaving in a few months? Yeah, that's going to be tough to find.

tloonya I am sorry that your DD is having a hard time to finding a full time job for the summer. Job market is pretty hard on many of young adult these days. As long as your DD is put in the effort to finding a full time job I wouldn't call it lazy. Good luck with your DD.

It can be tough to find a summer job. Is she trying to find a professional job, or a job like 'stocking shelves at Walmart' job? I know there was a summer I worked at a dry cleaner, and a summer I scooped ice cream at Baskin Robbins, and one summer I got an internship via the nepotism program at my dad's company - that was great!
When I graduated they cancelled the nepotism program and did a 100% hiring freeze for the whole company, so I was unemployed. I just kept going out there, and going out there, and going out there. Nothing like desperation to get your ass employed.

Is there an amusement park near you? They hire a lot of summer only help. I used to get 60+ hours a week during the summers when I was a teenager.

What types of jobs is she applying for? What industry or field? That information may help with some job-searching tips. Sorry if you've mentioned it before and I've missed it...

ltoonya, <BR>Whether or not it is possible for your daughter to find a full time summer job is irrelevant. You can't make people do something they don't really want to do. If your daughter is an adult, then it is high time for you to stop micromanaging her. If not having to work full time this summer is worth spending the next school strapped for cash, that is her business.

Until you DD finds a job, have her help out on the farm. How do you picture kid who had never seen how things grow to help on the farm? Also thanks you snowbird, yes, she has that job but I want her to get a taste of an adult life! And like I said I do not want to pay her! I want others to do that. Industries she is applying are restaurants, pizzas, online for intern positions, anything marketing/advertisement...anything! really....

Learning how to do things you didn't previously know how to do.

If I am not mistaken your DD major in marketing? Those kind of jobs will be great practices in dealing with public. Let her keep applying for those position but if all fails try not to be too hard on her. It's pretty tough out there you already knows that.

ltoonya, If you want your daughter to have a taste of adulthood, then keep your nose out of her business. Give her whatever support you intend to give her for school and let her figure out the rest.

How much farming experience do YOU have and you own the place! ROFL There's not a lot of skill involved in weeding or picking beans, but you're going to need a lot of labor and you're going to have to pay somebody. Might as well be your daughter.

Your DD could sign up with a temp agency...
In my parts, it's already late for a college student to be getting a job.

I think she should work on the farm too. Everyone should have the job equivalent of shoveling shit when they are a teen.

Guys! Kids don't become adults becase they are 18. It is only 1 day after they were 17! One day doesn't make them adults. She is still a teen, free spirit, a kid. Happy and crazy in a good way. I only wish she was responsible and maybe she is - I just don't have time to see it. I am always here at freaking store and can't figure out if my DD is what...adult or not!

I think she should go to Walmart. I also think she should give up the dream of getting a marketing job during the summer. There are some companies who are willing to take on a student into a professional office to do professional work, but most places aren't that organized. They want people who are fully educated - preferably with experience to come in and do the job right. They don't want to spend the whole summer babysitting some student who has taken 3 marketing classes, and hasn't got a clue.
Although, I will say that Northeastern has a really good internship program. They somehow have convinced companies to hire all sorts of students. Mandatory for graduation. Pretty awesome, if you think about it.

I was reffering to her daughter refusing to pet-sit. I am not sure if it was a true story or copy of something...however!

Gosh, you know what might help you have more time away from the store AND know if your daughter is a responsible person? Her working like a grown-up at the store or the farm or the farm store!
