What would you major in?
I've been playing with the idea lately. Not because I have a clear cut goal but because learning is fun and some things are easier to learn in an academic environment.

I might keep the same major, but I would have been a state police officer.
If I didn't do that, I would have gone into physical therapy/trainer/sports medicine.

I'd be an archeologist. Regardless of the pay and job prospects.

Mechanical engineering. There are so many inventions I have ideas for and no good way to test and develop them.
Or, if cost weren't an option, possibly medicine. But I wouldn't want to practice as a doctor, I'd use the training to develop medical devices or invest in upcoming biotech companies.

Same major but I would have switched to the nursing track. I could have gone two years at IWCC and then if approved fast tracked a BSN. Then I could have gone to graduate school and become a nurse researcher.
I didn't even know that existed when I was in school. I could have still done research but had a nursing license to back it up.
If not that I would have chosen to get my BLS which would have certified me to work in any clinical lab. Didn't know that was an option either.
I was too narrow minded/focused on becoming a profesor. Now after 7 years in academia I realize I'd rather chew glass. Changing courses now isn't easy.
I looked into both degrees and it would be too much work/money. I'd also have to stop working and we're not at a point where DH could support us. And no way I am taking on any more student loans.

so many things...
Architecture, Economics, Astronomy, Marine Biology.... (funny enough, none of these are particularly lucrative, lol!)

Aerospace Engineering. I am fascinated by aeronautics. Funny enough that I wasn't THAT into aircrafts when I was in high school ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

I have loved my finance degree.
I wish I was confident enough to switch to marketing. I might not be the most creative person, but I could manage the hell out of a brand.

If I could do it all over again I would have done engineering. As I mentioned, I recently dropped out of it because I couldn't handle a grad program in engineering with my current educational background. I like to think if I had done engineering from the beginning my chances would have been better.

She spent two summers studying (yeah right!) on the Alabama Gulf Coast. For her Marine Vertabrate class they actually went fishing! She in now an underemployed Marine Biologist......

Would I have to get a job in that major?
If not - history or criminal justice or literature of some kind
At one point I would have loved to go to Law School. But when I was in my Master's program, most of my professors were lawyers and used Law text books and I realized that it was way too boring, not like on TV at all!!!

If I could go back, I could have studied more to finish my Electrical Engineering degree and be making 1/2 my current salary at a job less rewarding than this one. If I could travel back in time, the only thing I would tell my younger self is that week's lotto numbers.

If I had to do it all over again, I would go back and be and Art History major. I don't have a talent for traditional drawing and painting, but I do have an artistic eye and crafty hands, and could have gone into any number of "allied" art fields: cake making, curating, textiles, costume making . . . sigh. I was young and listened to my Depression-era older family members for whom personal and financial security was *everything.* They drilled it into me that if I was going to college I needed a "secure" career, and I didn't even know that some of those allied fields existed (and paid decently) until I was out of college.

I would have loved to major in a couple of languages - Italian and Spanish to start with.

I would've gone to a different college. Mine was a big disappointment
I probably would've studied some sort of therapy (speech, occupational, etc.) to help special needs people. There are constant job openings here, but many require a Masters.

I also would have gone to U of Mich, instead of going the c c route and sticking closer to home. I wish I had someone back then to guide me. Since my parents were both immigrants, I didn't have anyone to help me figure out the ropes and help me get scholarships. I was a pretty good student in high school, and did quite well at the PSAT and act. (I forgot to go take the sat--twice.) My parents didn't even know what they were, and my dad refused to fill out the fafsa.

My major would be irrelevant as I'd be busy trying to turn my creepy stalker / revenge website into the next social media phenomenon.
Wait. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/huh.gif)

I should add, I'm currently looking at going back for a masters in acct. Not my preference, but practical if I don't want to relocate to a different city/state.

Same thing: chemistry and music as a dual degree. I love chemistry and am glad I get to do it every day of my life (and that it pays well!). And I love the fact that I followed my passion and got a degree that I don't use anymore. I feel like even though I don't play (injury rather than time prevents me from playing) that I feel as if I've know what I want to know in it.
If I have to change I'd probably go materials science other than chemistry. But for me they are just about the same thing...

If I could go back to HS (to start getting the foundations for what I'd need in college) I want to either build things or fix things. I'm fastinated with architecture (how a whole buildings systems need to work together along with 'magic' of making 'space'). But I also like being able to fix things - like an engine or (the whole system thing again and how it works and what it needs to keep working). I like the way things work and being able to modify/update/keep them running. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) I see the beauty in things like the way household plumbing works or the way a cantilever bridge works.
