I've noticed several people on my FB feed keep posting pictures of food adn the accompanying recipe. Most of the foods aren't particularly healthy, and some of them are down right fattening. Anything that calls for a brick of cream cheese, a cup of cheese, and a can of cream of crap soup probably isn't exactly the best option for dinner.
The kicker is that the people who do the most posting have had gastric bypass surgery!!! You'd think that the last thing they would want to do is spend their time looking at food they can't eat.

They wonder why they can't help themselves.

I agree that people know they are fat... I don't think they wonder why they can't help themselves - I think they wonder why even when they 'eat healthy' they can't loose weight or keep gaining. It's the prevailing 'perception' of how much food people feel they should eat to be 'satisified' that is the problem. In other words, an actual, healthy portion of something is perceived as being deprived or 'not enough'. I've watched enough people over the last 2 years (of my weight loss journey) consume very large quantities of 'healthy food' and then wonder why they are still fat. Actually, they've stopped wondering they now claim it's because their metabolism needs a jump start. So, they now eat large quantities of foods that will 'jump start' their metabolism. I suspect they will be back to wondering why they are still fat soon. I think there's alot of denial about the quantity of food that people eat. We humans don't really need a whole lot of food on a daily basis to keep us going and healthy.

Was the FB poster a midwestner?
MIL drags use to church potlucks, at least 95% of the food has either cream of crap soup or mayo in it. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif) I stopped going after the last one. I ended up with food poisioning.
DH calls it "good eating". That's what he grew up eating. He doesn't get why I'm trying not to gag.
My mom swore she'd never eat anything with cream of crap or mayo again once she was an adult. So I never grew up eating it and I refuse to cook with it. Which is probably what has kept DH from having a heart attack.

nope, they're all NNY'ers. Don't get me wrong, I like "good eating" foods, but I don't need them, and I don't want my kids thinking that's the "normal" way to eat. I tend towards pudgy, and controlling my weight is a battle. I'm not going to make things harder on myself by looking up fattening recipes.

"Good eating" and Cream of anything soup do not belong in the same sentence. No wonder DH's pallette sucks. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/confused.png)

It's more competitive on my FB feed. Who made the fanciest healthiest meal, or pictures from gourmet restaurants. I think my FB friends are too self conscious to admit that they eat processed crap occasionally.

American cheese is my favorite. I used to eat fancy cheeses all the time and I love them but American cheese is comfort to me.

I do have a few crock pot recipes that call for COC or cream cheese (pot roast, chicken stroganoff), but I try to save them for "special occasions" so we're not ingesting all that salt/fat too often. Every once in a while is okay - every week is not. I *did* make banana bread yesterday, but it is payment for our family photos! ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/raspberries.png)

My husband has a bunch of people from his high school in the midwest on his facebook page, and one person constantly posts these recipes. My husband will yell at the screen.

::considers sending Swamp the next church cookbook I recieve as a gift::
Now if we're talking fried twinkies I am so there. What am I doing to do at the State Fair this year now that Twinkies no longer exist?
Maybe I should move onto fried oreos.

I was watching a BBQ cooking contest the other night and they were wrapping pork in bacon and then smoking it in about 1" of melted butter. Every competitor was at least 100lbs overweight. I love BBQ as much as the next guy, but soaking meat in a swimming pool of butter for 2-3 hours is CRAZY. You'd have to run a marathon to burn off those calories. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/shocked.gif)

Is Man v Food the one where he is given some challenge to eat some ridiculous amount of food? I can't stand that show! Why would I sit and watch a fat guy overeat? I can do that just about anywhere.

Yes. I think the clips about the history of the restaurant, the interview with the owner, and what their featured dish is is really interesting, but I don't want to see the guy eat.

Are you taking about this one? Kat's Kreations Heaven in a Crockpot 1 box Betty Crocker fudge brownie mix 1/2 cup butter, melted. 4 eggs 1 pouch Betty Crocker chocolate chip cookie mix Mix it all together. Cook about 3 hours on low. Top with vanilla ice cream. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/drool.gif)

I like a good fatty recipe once in while. Once in while meaning once a year for any given recipe, if that. I make chicken pot pie and cream of potato about once every other year. Both are not healthy, but oh well. One meal isn't going to kill us. DH is from the midwest and I do not like his family's cooking. Luckily neither does he. Cheese, cream of whatever, and butter, but no real flavor. And Mayo. Ewww.

His mother's cooking is Gawdawful midwestern: Jello molds, cream o'crap in everything, white bread, processed cheese, etc. And a high-calorie meal once in awhile won't be the end of you, if you maintain good habits the rest of the time. I've said this before: I live to live within the 90-10 rule. Ninety percent of the time, the body is a temple, and should be worshiped and treated with reverence, love and respect. Ten percent of the time, it's an amusement park ride, and you should get on and hang on for dear freaking life. Of course, you can adjust the percentages accordingly. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)
