I generally pick up on the acronyms used on this site and others, but every once in awhile I'll be left completely clueless and will have to google it or just plain skip over it. Do we have a definition list somewhere of the commonly used acronyms on this site? If not, maybe we could just use this thread for everyone to add their favorite YM acronyms?

When I come across an acronym that I don't know, I just google it. I'm not aware of a list on YM. Yes, that's what I usually do, but google can sometimes be misleading... For instance, everyone seems to use acronyms for boyfriend, girlfriend, mother, father, son, daughter, etc...and I commonly come across DBF. For the longest time, I thought it was Dear BoyFriend, but then realized it was probably Dear Best Friend. To reassure myself, I google it, and one of the top matches for DBF was Divorced Black Female. I just can't imagine we're always discussing the status of divorced black females on this site? So you see my confusion. Hence, I think we should collectively try to define all of the acronyms used on this site. I'll start with a few... DH: Dear Husband DW: Dear Wife DD: Dear Daughter DS: Dear Son DF: Dear Fiance OP: Original Poster/Post SO: Significant Other FWIW: For What It's Worth IMO: In My Opinion IIRC: If I Recall Correctly EF: Emergency Fund ER: Early Retirement RE: Real Estate SAHM/D: Stay at Home Mom/Dad AGI: Adjusted Gross Income EIC: Earned Income Credit

I still haven't figured out "BBF". It seems to be used in the contest of a female best friend, but the letters don't fit......... "Bestest best friend" ??

COL(A) - Cost of living (area); sometimes people add H, M, or L to the front of that.

DF seems to mean Dear Fiancee or Dear Fiance but many people don't know that means they should be engaged to be married and not just anyone you shack up with so they use it even if they have no marriage plans.
DS1, DS2, DD1, DD2 are the sons and daughters when you have more than one of each. DN could be Dear Niece or Dear Nephew.
DH is often Dear Husband but just about as often the D is for something else like Darn.

Question: Why is it that people who write IMHO never seem to have a humble opinion but just the opposite or at least never express their many opinions in a humble fashion???

MIL - Mother-in-law FIL - Father-in-law BIL - Brother-in-law SIL - Sister-in-law
I'll use DB for dear brother and DS for dear sister after it's obvious that I'm talking about a brother or sister (otherwise DS could be dear son).
