It seems like whenever I go to the grocery store, the product I want is no longer in stock. Meaning it's not just sold out, they don't carry it anymore.
This has happened with several items, including the low fat pizzas I liked, the juice I liked, the chicken tenders I like, the cereal I like ect.
It just seems like every time I like a particular item/brand, they discontinue it. Maybe I just eat weird stuff and they have to carry what sells?
Has anyone else had this problem?
Another thing is they also like to move around where things are, so it makes it annoying to find what you want since it wasn't where it was last time.
Anyways, rant over ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

I usually have that problem with facial products. I'll find something that doesn't cause me to break out in a hideous rash and then when I go back to purchase more it's gone. I stopped shopping at Bath & Body when they discontinued their Pure Simplicity line. Otherwise I'm not really that particular about stuff I buy, I go with whatever's on sale, so if they are discontinuing stuff I haven't noticed. I have noticed packages keep shrinking in the name of "reducing costs" but yet the smaller package costs 3x as much. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png)

This happens to me sometimes or I figure out that I actually have to go somewhere else to get it. Everything where I live is pretty close so going to another store is not a huge deal, just slightly annoying. Dole makes these chocolate covered frozen bananas that I love and the only place I could ever find them was Target. I noticed last week that they finally started selling them at my grocery store. Personally I hate it when I find a color lipstick I like and they stop making it. Totally pisses me off ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

Now there is a special tea that I buy for my son. The store near me used to sell it, but now they only sell the "unsweetened" version. I asked the store manager if he could stock the "sweetened" kind, and he told me no. He said nobody buys it. How can I buy it if it's not there? Grrrr. My mom shops at that store and she buys that kind of tea too. Or she would, if they would carry it. Now we both drive around town looking for it. Do they sell it on amazon? I've had the best luck with stuff on there. Even grocery/speciality items.

Yes I have been having that problem frequently lately. I think it means whatever you like isn't profitable enough for that store or they've been sold into expanding a competing line or bringing in new products.
Since I avoid dairy for my health I'm always glad when I find things that work. Last year BestLife spread was available from several different grocery stores. It was even cheap compared to what I used to use. Earlier this year everyone dropped it and SmartBalance which usually contains whey has expanded like a humongous variety pox everywhere I look.
Sadly this even happens with products that did sell pretty well and no one else carried. Its annoying but it is the way of the food industry. Manufacturers stop making certain products, charge more or chains broker deals with other manufacturers. Sometimes I think its because how the producer prefers to sell it, must take three varieties, when only two sell well, etc.

I asked my old grocery store if they used that dumb little card to just go around and get rid of everything I purchase.

I don't tend to notice this because I am not very brand loyal. I guess if they stopped carrying Ritz crackers, I might notice. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

When my husband and I were childfree, I used to buy the container of pillsbury cresent rolls that had 4 in them. They discontinued them. But, now that my kids are eating full meals, I have seen them back in the store. Come on!

I can't think of anything I regularly buy that was discontinued.
Oh wait, a certain brand of lunch meat, Thurman's. they replaced it with deitz and Watson. Meh, whatever.

I've run into this with various products over the years. Most recently its been with a type of Almay mascara. I can find it out the ying yang in blue, but not black. Hello, I'm nearly 45 and even if "sapphire" is supposed to make my already attention grabbing blue eyes appear brighter, I don't care to wear it now when I didn't even follow that trend 25 years ago. Same thing with a shade of haircolor I was looking for last month. Every shade but the two I needed (I mix 3:1 because one closest to my natural color is to dark and the next one down much to light). This issues I can deal with though since I can always find alternatives. Its the sizing of products now that really annoys me. I went to buy spaghetti sauce last week and noticed a packaging change. When I dug further back on the shelf looking for what I wanted, I found a few in the old packages and notice it was larger than the new. Turned out to be a 2 oz difference in size but no change in pricing. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png)

Not too much of a problem with us. We buy a lot of fresh stuff and either generic (store) brands or pretty standard name brand products. I have had some cereals I like discontinued by the manufacture.
I hate it when they re organize the store tho. They move stuff and then I can't find it anymore.

What lynnerself said. Probably 85% of what we buy is fresh - the only boxes/bottles/jars we get are pantry staples like olive oil and other condiments.
And yeah I HATE it when they move the store around. My local Whole Foods did that recently, and since I hadn't been in there in a while, it was really frustrating to try and find anything.

DH and I love to cook and try recipes. Where we live there are really no premium grocery stores - Publix has the most variety. It can be a challenge finding some specialty items. On the food shows they always recommend to "check your local ethnic market" - ummm we don't have any. Last weekend we were making an asian dish and I had to buy a lot of specialty ingredients. Went to publix. They had ~30 varieties of soy sauce ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/huh.gif) which I didn't need, but no rice paper for spring rolls, which is a pretty standard ingredient. So I had to go to a second store.

I am brand loyal for many things, but sometimes I am forced to switch brands for some reason. Things taste weird at first, but I get over it in time.

I have this problem often. Dh is sensitive to certain ingredients and DD dislikes almost everything. So I stand in the grocery aisle reading ingredient lists. When I find something that works, I stick with it, until they inevitably stop carrying it. Then I go to amazon and just get it delivered to my house. Take that grocery store!

Michelyn8, what is the complete name of that Almay mascara? Is it a bright sapphire blue or more of a navy? I'm interested because my fave mascara that I buy is Navy not dark brown. It works more like a lightish black than it does a blue. I've been wondering if there is a cheaper version somewhere as I misplaced it and it isn't cheap so I've been doing without for about two months. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/melancholy.png) Please post or PM me the name. Thanks! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) (FWIW, the Navy is kinder to my very light 53 year old complexion. Black is too harsh and the dark browns I've tried don't look as good as the navy does.)

Lea and Perrins used to make what they called "White Wine Worchestershire" sauce. It was great for marinating chicken or "sauteing" vegetables. Then they changed the name (I forget exactly what they changed it to, but then they seem to have simply discontinued it. I still haven't found a substitute...
Boca used to make "Boca dogs" - a soy based hot dog. Their brats and Italian were very good. Suddenly they were no longer available.
Like pooks, I have a spouse with hypersensitive skin. It took a long time and a lot of experimentation to find a laundry detergent that won't give him a rash. Ditto shower gel, shampoo, conditioner.. When we find a product that doesn't give him a rash, we stick to it - until it is no longer available. He even uses a particular toothpaste (Sensedyne)

Not very often. But I don't buy much processed food, and when I do buy it, I'm not particularly brand/type loyal.

They still make it.. I just bought a bottle two weeks ago. Oh wow - now I will have to visit every grocery in the area - and/or talk to the manager...

COSTCO does this all the time. I complained once, and they said it's to "encourage shoppers to stock up when they see an item they like." Very annoying. All I wanted was a case of garbanzo beans. WTF? I mean, how many of us would buy multiple cases of garbanzo beans at once? Used to work for a company that was a Costco supplier. Costco's strategy is to rotate through an assortment of products in order to have a changing variety of products available. Aside from some basic items, they change their product assortment every three months. We had to provide Costco with a different product every quarter. Brownie mix one quarter, muffin mix the next, then cake mix, followed by a sweetbread mix. If you supply vegetables, I suppose it's corn, then garbanzo beans, then peas, then tomatos.
