Rationalize? I don't know. Live with the random nature of things, yeah, probably. It's about outlook. If ou go into something looking for a lesson or purpose, the random horror is less likely to break you down.

My question is: Why can you spell out all names but God's?

I can't stand it when people say crap like "everything that happens, happens for a reason, we just might not know the reason" - Ya think ?? That's pretty much saying that random things happen all the time, live with it. Actually, they are completely opposite things. People that say that things happen for a reason, are saying they believe in Fate. That things were destined to happen the way they did. I do not believe in fate. I think you can influence things in your life to a degree, but lots of random crap is still thrown in there.

I'm Catholic - we were taught that randomness entered the world with sin and free will. So no, I believe in God and don't believe everything happens for a purpose. It's one of the great mysteries. Pretty philosophical stuff for a room of eight year olds. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

My question is: Why can you spell out all names but God's? More importantly....."Darth" Vader is spelt wronglier......that or else the OP thought it really was "Dark" Vader ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/shocked.gif)

FYI, in Europe Darth Vader is named "Dark Vader". I had the same thing happen to me, the other way around, when my college students told me I was mispronuncing / misspelling Dark Vader LOL. Since Lena is young enough to have seen the Star Wars films in Russia when she was growing up, I'm guessing that he was called "Dark Vader" in Russia too, and she understandably assumed his name was "Dark Vader" in the US as well.
And since I'm Jewish, I'll try to answer Dutt's question. I hope somebody (Nancy? Lena? Archie?) will weigh in on my response with a better explanation. Basically, we are taught that us "mere mortals" aren't "good / holy enough" to write His name out in full, so, we are taught that we must abbreviate it that way in English. I am 53 and it drives me NUTS, because on some level I know it is beyond ridiculous. Yet it remains very difficult for me to write it out in full. Early imprinting, I guess LOL.
I don't know / remember the exact details, but that's it, in a nutshell.
Hope this helps. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

I still capitalize the word "God". It's a matter of respect, in my view. I imagine your discomfort in writing the word out is based on the same thing.
