DH is a huge Mad Men fan. I've never watched an episode, although I've seen occasional glimpses of it.
I have to say though that I think the titles have some of the most haunting music EVER.

Ugh...my wife just got us in to watching this on Netflix and so far I'm not at all impressed.
I look at it like Duck Dynasty....everybody goes nuts talking about these shows and then I watch them and my reactions are: "This is boring" (Mad Men) or "This is Teen Mom level of stupidity" (Duck Dynasty).

I think it is funny that every Mad Men thread we start, it turns into a discussion about violent, horror shows. I don't really get the connection. Mad Men is classic drama - very little blood, gore and violence. But the other ones, you don't get through an episode without seeing something disturbing.

Maybe that's why people think Mad Men is boring. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png) Would talking about Boardwalk Empire count? It's a drama and it's historical. But there is a lot of violence since it's about gangsters in the 1920's during prohibition. It's a pretty good show, it tends to start really slow though.

I was actually quite bored with Boardwalk Empire as well. The Sopranos is another show that I didn't get why it had all the hype. I don't mind that Mad Men has little violence...I watch plenty of shows that don't have any violence. I just find it boring and tend to start doing other things while my wife watches it because it just doesn't hold my interest.

We've seen most of the first few seasons, and gave up somewhere in season 4. Whether or not it is a really accurate portrayal of Madison Avenue back then, I cannot say.
Most of the things I hear people discuss concern the way there is booze in every office, or how the women are all SAHMs and the men come home to clean houses, well dressed wives, and cooked dinners. I could also see a parallel between Mad Men making men want custom made suits, the same way that SATC made women want shoes.
DW and I are probably "behind" on quite a few series by at least one season. I guess maybe we'll try to catch up over the summer when there aren't really any new shows. Figure on average, 20 episode seasons, 42 minutes each... that is a LOT of screen staring!

I drift in and out. I usually start the season, then lose interest, then come back in for the last few episodes which tend to pack a punch. Amazingly I'm still able to keep up.
It's a well crafted show, the historical accuracy and detail is amazing. I also appreciate that it's highly character driven, you don't see many shows that are character driven anymore.
It's just really dry/dull in the middle of each season.
I hope Nucky and Maragret get back together. I liked them as a couple.

I'm glad Thyme pointed that out because in general I don't like the trend to showing more violence, blood, and gore on screen. I just finished season 5 of Mad Men and I hope the show goes a little lighter for awhile. I wish there were more happy silly shows like Big Bang Theory. I guess I won't check out any of the series suggested here. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

I watched one episode of Mad Men. That was enough. I lived it - don't need to relive it.
Loved, loved loved Six Feet Under and Dexter. Michael J Hall is an amazing actor. We also got hooked on Breaking Bad, but my favorite episodes were the first season - the two bumbling criminals. It got pretty dark, though.
I watched House of Cards with mixed feelings.

Spoiler alert...
Sunday night was the episode of when MLK was shot. Although we just went through the Boston Marathon bombing, I was trying to think of a non-Presidential figure that would rock the world if he (or she) was shot. Matthew Weiner talks about how a lot of the scenes he does are to point out how much the same we are, so I constantly try to draw comparisons about what is and isn't the same. I can't think of too many political figures that people would even know - much less care about. The only one I came up with was Hillary Clinton.
But, I did draw a comparison on how people felt about a public tragedy with the Boston Marathon. We went back to work, and had a conversation, and everyone went to their desk and went about their day. Meanwhile, some people were really broken up and devastated.

I had forgotten about Chauncey POM. I agree he was a ass to do so. I chose to believe someone would quickly take in such a beautiful dog.
