You can avoid seeing those tantrums by never mentioning what you make. That's what I do, now.
It's a price that I pay willingly but it's definitely a cost. Not being able to discuss compensation in front of new hires does change the workplace and probably for the worse.
The other day another long-term employee was talking about 401(k) allocation and I pretty much had to whisper, "Check out the expense ratios for those target funds." I would have been much more emphatic if I hadn't had to worry about jealousy.

If you pay people dramatically unequally for the same job, it's going to come out eventually. Plus one would think you're opening yourself up to liability for doing so.

I work in a small office and we do not discuss pay ever and we especially don't mention bonuses. There is one employee that has been with company for 15 yrs but is lazy as hell (actually mentioned her on the laziest person you know thread). I can't think of a single deadline she has met since I have been here. It is pretty well known that she would throw a big tantrum if someone who has been with the company for less years than she has received a bigger bonus. I have only been here 2 yrs but my supervisor has told me that I received the biggest bonus in the office the last 2 times they were given. Bonuses and raises are based on performance and not how long you have been with the company. Her lazy ass could be here another 20 yrs and she still wouldn't get the highest bonus or pay raise. Nobody wants to deal with her reaction on anything so it is best to just keep it to yourself. Plus, it really isn't anyone's business anyway. Vacation time in our office is also negotiable so we keep that to ourselves as well. Retirement is the same for everybody - 7% of your salary whether you contribute or not.

Did anyone watch the video? I thought it was pretty funny to watch the monkey with the cucumber.

Yes, it was funny.
On the other hand, the researcher was blocking my view of the monkey on the right. I kinda suspect that those grapes would have tasted better if the monkey on the left wasn't chucking cucumber slices.
