www.thegatewaypundit.com/2013/04/its-an-obama-world-us-army-tells-troops-to-scrape-bible-verses-off-their-weapons/It’s an Obama world. The US Army is directing troops to scrape Bible verses off of their weapons. The U.S. Army is directing troops to remove a Bible inscription that a vendor etched into the serial numbers of weapon scopes, Fox News has learned. Soldiers at Fort Wainwright in Alaska told Fox News they received a directive to turn in their scopes so the Bible references could be removed. The scopes were made by Trijicom and referenced New Testament passages in John 8:12 and Second Corinthians 4:6. The verses appeared at the end of the scope serial numbers – “JN8:12” and “2COR4:6.” “The biblical verse (JN8:12) must be removed utilizing a Dremel type tool and then painted black,” read instructions on how to remedy the matter. After the letters and numbers were scraped off, soldiers were directed to use apply black paint to ensure the verses were totally covered.

and WHY should bible verses be on the weapon in the 1st place?
I do NOT see the big deal on this military practice of removing the references, they should be taken off the weapons
I am in the military & am not an anti- religous nut, but I am not gung-ho about religion either

A US military contractor has said it will stop engraving Biblical references on rifles used by the US army. The markings, in the form of coded references, have been appearing on products made by the US firm Trijicon, based in Michigan, for decades. But on Thursday, US military chief Gen David Petraeus, said the practice of scripture references was "disturbing" and "a serious concern". news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8474268.stm Wait a minute. Petraeus? Oh: Page last updated at 10:48 GMT, Friday, 22 January 2010

This is so old it's got rigor mortis. The company (Trijicom) hasn't put biblical references on weapons sold to the military since January of 2010. It just ain't news!

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of the evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and goodwill, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee!

I thought about the "Friends lost, relatives angry" thread in relationship to this thread's connecting this story to Obama. The New Zealand military and the Australian military have already announced their plans to remove the inscriptions from their Trijicon scopes. abcnews.go.com/Blotter/jesus-rifles/story?id=9618791#.UXaNVUqQMsM Got to keep the hate alive with stories over three years old and don't really have a legitimate connection to President Obama.

www.timesrecordnews.com/news/2012/aug/04/just-where-does-the-constitution-mention-god/First, the constitutional framers built their structure upon the foundation of Natural Law — a God-centered world view. On this the founders were in agreement. But "Natural Law" to the entire founding generation was defined as the "laws of the Creator." In a 1794 letter to the Massachusetts Legislature, Samuel Adams wrote, "In the supposed state of nature, all men are equally bound by the laws of nature, or to speak more properly, the laws of the Creator." This is precisely why "Congress shall make no law …" initiates the First Amendment. Freedom of speech, of press, of religion had been given by God and no government can legitimately remove it. Second, it is interesting that the founders relied most heavily upon the Bible for their political justification for the Constitution. William Blackstone, Baron von Montesquieu and John Locke top the list of most-often cited theorists — all of whom believed that God's laws undergird civil law. But the founders quoted another volume much more prolifically than any other. Biblical quotations comprise 34 percent of all the source material offered by the founders!

Someone who doesn't check their sources thoroughly enough to be aware they're touting as news a three-year-old story probably won't be particularly concerned about connecting things that are not related.

Well, it was posted by SF - A demagogue (/ˈdɛməɡɒɡ/) or rabble-rouser is a political leader in a democracy who appeals to the emotions, prejudices, and ignorance of the less-educated ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demagogue
