$225
That's the difference between the W-2 that the USAF gave us in January, and the revised one that arrived in today's mail. (My wonderful DH actually earned $225 less than they originally reported.) (It seems that the USAF messed up a lot of people's W-2s over a slight revision to how they apply the CZTE.)
We filed our taxes months and months ago and received a California as well as a federal refund.
So ... do we need to file amended federal and state returns, or what? (Can we just let this slide?) We used a CPA for our taxes and I'd really like to avoid paying him to amend our returns over an amount this small.
(And, yes, I will call our CPA on Monday morning)

If you do not want the extra "refund" (I assume withholding remains the same and just taxable wages were lowered) then do nothing.
or, wait until next year and have the amended prepared at the same time you prepare your 2013 tax filings.

I'm not interested in whatever refund we'd get from a $225 difference in income ... I just don't want to have to pay the CPA to file amended state/federal returns right now if we can just deal with it next year.

i often will process an amended filing for a good client at little or no fee, but, if you are a PIA do not expect any favors...

The employer should have sent a copy of the corrected W-2 to the IRS and the IRS should enter the corrected information into the "system", and SHOULD either send you an inquirery or an adjustment form to sign indicating a refund. Wait and see what IRS does. You DO NOT have to amend your return for refund. Ditto the PIA clients comment. I had a client drop off a box of records Monday afternoon and want to know if the return would be ready in time to take it to the post office before it closed. I think I'll open the box tomorrow!

I'm a nice client ... we are always the first or second people every year to turn all of our stuff into our CPA.... and he gives us a nice discount because he likes us. Thanks for the assistance.

I never worked for a preparer who didn't charge for an amended return unless it was due to their error.
However, if you have a long relationship with a preparer, you may find differently.
