Boston and 7 or 8 surrounding towns are in complete lockdown. One bombing suspect is dead. The other is still on the run. THOUSANDS of police officer from all around the state, state police officers, FBI agents, ATF agents, etc. are swarming the Greater Boston area -- especially in Cambridge and Watertown, Massachusetts.
Schools, colleges, business -- even public transportation -- are closed. Taxi service is shut down. Residents are urged to stay in their homes and not open the doors except to identified police officers.
Sadly, an MIT police officer was killed by these guys overnight. Another is critically wounded.
19 and 20 years old. Originally from Chechnya. Lived here for the past 10 years. Everyone who knows them is absolutely stunned -- they are bright, social, got into colleges after high school, had goals. Family and friends are painting a completely different picture from the depravity these guys displayed on Monday. (Do the police have the right guys?)
I don't think they'll take him alive, so we will never know "why".

I hope all our posters from the Boston area are ok. I know of 2.
I'm ok with not knowing why. I don't really want to have to house this kid in jail for the next 70 years.

My wife stayed home today which is good.
Boston has been war zone since Monday. She said every corner have cops, snipers on the roofs, big army cars that she only ever seen in movies, getting her bag checked when she enters for work etc.
Hopefully everything clears up by Monday and this is over.

They found someone else. Possibly a 3rd person?

nothing's been confirmed as to a 3rd person, but there is an APB out for a Honda w/MA license plates that may be in CT by now.
I just saw a tweet that taxi service has been restored in Boston, as of 10:40am

Chiver, my DH is stuck in Nashua bc they closed the roads and there are bomb squads are all over the place. I don't want to turn TV on bc I don't want my littles to see/hear any of it - are they saying anything?

Lena, I'm actually at work (west of I-95) so I don't have a tv on. I've been alternating back and forth between Boston.com and MSNBC.com because they have consistently had the most accurate information this week. <hugs>

I stupidly went on FB this morning and saw the pic of the one bomber dropping the backpack five feet from the 8yo that was killed. I'll never forget that pic. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/melancholy.png)

don't go in Archie's thread about Monday then, I posted a link and someone else posted the pic for me. I still have the chills half an hour later, I don't think I'm going to kick 'em any time soon. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/melancholy.png)

Or delete it yourself if you think it should be deleted.

you're fine, I'd have posted it like that myself if it had cooperated. I think we're past that page anyway, as long as SK doesn't go back pages, she should be okay too.
I know I can't look at it again, that's for sure.

I want to know why. If we don't know why we don't know what their affiliations are, if there are others like them in the area, if there might be others planning similar things. Granted, the guy may not say anything useful, but if no one ever gets to talk to him, we've got no shot.

If they acted alone, then the "why" might not be some reasonable, rational thought process, and we won't understand the explanation, even if he does tell us. However, if they are representing a larger group that is coming after America in a series of attacks such as this, information is much more important than vengeance. It doesn't do much good to have this guy, and all of us pat ourselves on the back and declare that he got what he deserved, and 2 weeks from now, 50 more people get their legs blown off by the same group.

What cause was so great in someone's mind that the only way to further that cause was by murdering and maiming innocent people? (Although, I am well aware that many of us never get closure on life's most sad and traumatic events. Still...)

We have a new employee who went to school in Boston and was back there for the marathon. She seemed OK up to yesterday and today she was having such a hard time holding it together I sent her home. I think it was the recent developments that put her over the edge. I hope she's OK. We have an Employee Assistance Plan and I referred her to them. I can't imagine what it would be like being in the area right now but she's not the only former Bostonian I know who's falling apart. One of my FB contacts, a really nice guy who's now retired to FL, has said he can't stop crying.

I was off today and I have spent the ENTIRE DAY watching CNN. I went to school there too.
As the biggest college town in the US, I think many Americans will always feel like they are "from" Boston inside.
Lena are you in the lockdown area? If you don't want to turn on the radio or TV because of your kids you can watch the live text updates on one of the news websites.

They can be and are great help during times of personal crisis.

Of course, there are neighborhoods you don't venture into unless you want trouble with gangs or drug dealers, but that is true in every major city. And, we do have blackmarks for hate crimes during the busing programs in the 70s. But, one attraction to Boston is that it IS safer than New York. This stuff just doesn't happen here. It's not the nation's capital, it is not the nation's financial hub -- it's a relatively boring, liberal but still Puritanical, small city. So, the question is not only "why bomb", but, "why bomb Boston?"

Oh, and I had to turn the television off. Yes, the manhunt is necessary for public safety and to bring the bombers to justice. But, the incessant coverage can really mess with your mind and make you think the end of days is upon us. Please don't misinterpret me -- I am unendingly grateful that there are law enforcement folks out there who get paid relative peanuts to put their lives on the line and their personal lives on hold to go out and hunt these aholes down. I KNOW I do not have even a fraction of their courage and perseverance. But, I also know that the media tends toward a "more is better" approach and, well, that is not always the case, IMHO. YMMV.

I closed my browser windows for Boston.com and MSNBC. I'm trying to stay away from FB as well. I think tonight's going to be a Redbox night, something mindless. and wine, lots of wine.
