So, we can't afford to put a cop in a school, but we can afford to replace all the trash cans in a city with bomb resistant ones?

And by all means back cops in schools- as if a lot of schools don't already have them. They don't stop mass shootings either.

This would be tough to prove, don't you think? If the presence of a cop prevents someone from even trying, we'll likely never know.

It seems relatively sane to me…what’s your point?

The conspiracy theorists come out...I aslo have my doubts: I don't believe we know who killed JFK, and I believe that a weather balloon in New Mexico in 1947 really had aliens, with advanced technology. Oh brother...

zipity--This is different. They gave the entire county until July to file their taxes. Anyone outside the county but still affected can also call and ask for an extension.
I hadn't heard that, nice gesture but pretty silly. A usual day at the marathon would keep you in the city till early evening. I can't imagine anyone doing that then racing home to do their taxes.

If armed cops prevent school shootings then we would not have had them at those schools that had them, would we? But we did- which shows plainly that the shooters did not seek out a 'gun free' location- they went exactly where they wanted to regardless of the police. That proves my point. You can argue that some people may have been deterred- now that would be hard to prove.

Not at all- it is up to you or whomever made the statement to show that police in schools have deterred someone from attacking a particular one. While it is quite easy to show that condoms are effective based on the reams of data- I cannot recall a single incident where a mass shooter skipped a target because of a cop or a guard- so your analogy fails.

I heard someone else say that there won't be trash cans at public events anymore. I guess we should all bring our own bags and pack it out. Yeah, right - that will happen. Sheesh! There are no trashcans in Istanbul for this very reason....not even in a McDonalds. If you go there, you just leave your trash on the table.

LOL. Nobody even said that. But you did say that police in schools do not prevent mass killings. As you say, whomever made the statement needs to back it up. But as is your style, you will not do that.

There have been mass killings at schools that had police. VA tech and Columbine as recent examples- both of those nuts went for their target- their school- they did not seek out schools without them- such as the local kindergarten, etc.
The only difference the cop is going to make is that might be the first person shot. It would actually be better to have certain teachers trained and anonymous like air marshalls than some guy in a uniform.
I contend that a high capacity mag ban and background check expansion would be more effective and a shitload cheaper than paying for additional security. As the NRA likes to say- you will never stop these incidents so if a mag ban or background check is a waste of time then a cop hiring spree is a waste of money. Lives are saved due to reloading gaps- that is indisputable- and the preference for these by mass shooters is as well.

There were no trash cans in London either. I noticed there was a lot of trash being swept up every morning and thought that tourists could be so disrespectful. I realised there were no trash cans at Kings Crossing after my friend used the washroom and had nowhere to her paper towel after washing her hands. Apparently they got rid of the trash cans because of the IRA.

You've mentioned here before that you've been through law school. Which means you know what does and does not constitute a valid argument. So you and I both know that this does not prove that cops on school campuses don't stop shootings. Columbine isn't even a valid example. Tactics have been completely re-written since then.
