www.cnn.com/2013/04/16/us/tainted-letter-intercepted/index.html?hpt=hp_t1Washington (CNN) -- An envelope that tested positive for the deadly poison ricin was intercepted Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. Capitol's off-site mail facility in Washington, congressional and law enforcement sources tell CNN.
Ricin is a highly toxic substance derived from castor beans. As little as 500 micrograms -- an amount the size of the head of a pin -- can kill an adult. There is no specific test for exposure and no antidote once exposed.

What did the junior senator from Mississippi do to piss someone off?! I've never heard of him, so he can't be that controversial. How scary for him and the others.

According to the comments section, this senator voted with the Dems on the gun control bill. Hmm.

That somebody voted with the Dems or the Ricin being mailed to the Senator? ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)
But I agree. Sometimes I wish technology wasn't so helpful in all that we hear/read day to day. It's starting to get exhausting and depressing. We need more nonsense! <<goes to post some more>>

I think it's time to clear out the whole senate and start again. Maybe we can get some decent laws passed and some crazy ones out before the new crop gets corrupted again.

They haven't been bribed yet. Term .imits need to be in effect and you don't get to keep your primo health care paid for by taxpayers and your salary for life.

I think they get bought during the election process. At the beginning of the election process they have a main owner. They sell additional shares as their popularity increases.
But, I agree that term limits would help, because they might turn on their investors when they were coming to the end.

Why? I think cleaning them out and starting from scratch is a great idea. Incumbents never seem to get voted out. It shouldn't be a lifetime job, it's supposed to be a civic duty like volunteering. Trouble is no one volunteers for it so they get paid big time to do it. Did you get to keep your old pay and health insurance from your previous jobs even though you moved onto other jobs?

Actually, I think zib's reaction shows that some people feel very frustrated, unrepresented and distrustful of our elected officials. Not that I am saying zib would poison anyone, but zib is most certainly not alone in her disgust with the system. It could be a peek into the motive for this crime.

Innocent until proven guilty unless its against someone who thinks they're important?

Do we still think this is one lone whackadoodle? Or are these two unrelated incidents? Or, did someone send the letters and then bomb the marathon?

If someone wants to kill a senator or the president a ricin envelope is a stupid way to do it. It's not like these people open their own mail.
And I think wishing our president dead is abhorrent. I didn't like bush jr at all, but I don't want him injured. I'm not exactly a fan of Obama but wishing harm on the guy seems a tad bit unbalanced.

Innocent until proven guilty unless its against someone who thinks they're important? What are you talking about? The media reports on possible suspects all the time, and the public certainly doesn't wait to pass judgment until after a trial has taken place.

We did a good job of hanging Casey Anthony even though she was found not guilty.

I don't care for the President (this one and his predecessor) but I also don't care enough about him or politics to try to kill him; also never heard of that senator.
I also agree with swamp, really dumb and stupid attempt. I am a simple store manager and I don't open my own mail; you think a senator or the President of the United States open their own mail?

I don't agree with what he did but I can understand why he did it. If he did. I can't. I can certainly understand being frustrated with the political process in this country, but I can't imagine the level of psychosis that leads someone to attempt to murder a government official. Particularly when this murder is attempted via an envelope with that person's name and fingerprints all over it. Plus, I'm way too lazy to make my own ricin. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

Watch "The following" I know it is just a TV show, but it gives you an idea how bat shit crazy some people may be.

People are tired of the government and its policies. Those who profit from it aren't, of course, but those that pay for it, are. Of course it wasn't going to kill anybody but the message is clear.

I don't know how he votes nor do I care. They vote for their own best interests, not mine. So to summarize - you don't know or care how they vote, but it's not the way you want so everyone should be thrown out of office? And you totally understand people trying to murder elected officials because they don't agree with how they vote? Your posts on this thread are more frightening than normal.

That is not what I said. What I said is that they are all crooks and on the take and have forgotten what they were elected to do.
