I'm afraid that is a vain hope. Some sources are reporting deaths. Every source I've seen is reporting injuries, including lost limbs. This is probably going to be one of those stories with a lot of misinformation until everything can be straigtened out.

OK, in 2001 I was 30 miles away from DC. Now I am about 40 miles away from Boston. I think I am moving to Alaska

I've been following the Globe's Twitter feed - looks like most recent report is 2 dead, 23 injured. twitter.com/BostonGlobe

Just able to see that a friend is safe. Her husband was having trouble reaching her, but she must have gotten a signal enough to post on FB that she was ok.

The police have jammed cell phone signals to prevent remote detonation. Although they believe they have the suspect in custody at an area hospital. This is absolutely atrocious and I feel horrible for all the injured & deceased as well as their friends and family.
And I really hope this scumbag gets the death penalty.. .

The police have jammed cell phone signals to prevent remote detonation. While I understand why they did it; it does not make it less frustrating. - I am trying I reach my wife and I keep on getting this stupid AT&T chick telling me my call is not going through. - One of my department managers is freaking out because 2 of her kids went there to support a friend's mom that was running the marathon. She can't get a hold of them. Hope they catch the SOB.

Deepest condolences and prayers for the wellbeing of the people of Boston and Massachusetts. I used to live right off of Rte. 9, and used to enjoy watching the marathon on television back in the days when it was a great competition and not an occasion for sick terroristic acts. I hope that the competitors and spectators, families and friends are mostly okay. So sorry for those who are hurt or killed, along with their loved ones.

Terribly, terribly sad. I read on CNN over 10 limbs aputated. I don't think this is a foreign terrorist. I think this is a home-grown maniac with a personal grudge against the Boston Marathon/Boston. Now attending any of these large events is going to be like checking in at the airport. D*mn Sickos!

I agree Bonny. My husband thinks it is an anti-tax lunatic. That sounds right to me - Boston Tea Party, April 15th, Boston Marathon. It all works.

DH also thought about the "tax" piece. I didn't think about the significance of the Boston Tea Party. I think it's interesting that none of the cowards have come forward to claim credit for their work.

There was that incident a few years back of the guy who intentionally flew his small airplane into the IRS building in Austin. People do crazy shit if they're mad enough. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Austin_suicide_attack

Seems like the explosion sent mostly shrapnel at "leg level" - well, seems that way from the news feeds about the types of injuries... I wonder if that was intentional. I wonder how hard it is to control the trajectory of the shrapnel you're using when creating a bomb. Of course there's the off chance the bombs didn't work as planned.

Hi all.....over here in the UK, we're stunned and so sad for the loss of life, injuries and mayhem caused by some deluded individual or individuals involved in causing this atrocity. We are all set for the London Marathon this coming Sunday.....but now, in light of what has happened, there will be increased security along the route and, of course, the Finishing Line too. 36,000 runners are expected to take part....how many will turn up is a different story.....knowing Brits.....most will still compete. The speed with which the people around the explosion organised themselves to tend to and help those injured is a credit to all Americans. Those spectators who are Doctors and nurses who pushed themselves forward with offers of help, the medical staff on duty, the stewards, the fire and police departments and so many more who were desperate to get on and do their jobs under severe pressure or those who just wanted to help, have all been marvellous ! As somebody interviewed said, so accurately......" It's chaos there, organised chaos " It's uplifting to see that the human spirit to put others before yourself, shone brightly today in Boston. Our hearts are with all those injured, the fatalities too....sadly soon to be joined by others..... with the families also, the relatives and friends....EVERYBODY who is and will be affected by this madness...God Bless each and everyone of you. Now is the time to stabilise......save lives and plan for recuperation. We need to bury the dead whilst others will need time to heal..... There'll be plenty of time to reflect and then get the bastard(s) responsible afterwards. And I wish you God's speed in finding the perpetrators........Bombs and bullets may tear us apart but the will to stand together and fight for what is RIGHT will always be stronger. Always. Malc xx

That is such a heartbreaking tragedy. My deepest condolences and prayers are with that family, as well as everyone else. I just don't understand why someone would do this to innocent people.

The name of the third victim isn't being released yet - but some information is being released.
