Since you guys were so helpful on the interview suit thread, maybe you can help me again. I'm going to a 1920s party on Saturday. I though I knew what that meant so I didn't Google ideas until after I bought my dress. Here's the dress (I got navy): www1.macys.com/shop/product/marina-dress-cap-sleeve-lace-cocktail-dress-also-available-in-plus-petite?ID=635228&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_resultsI thought it looked vintage-ish, but I think I'm off. I should have gone with a drop waist. So what would you recommend: just sticking with some sort of typical sparkly necklace and calling it a day? Or should I try to get a long 1920s necklace? Multiple long strands of pearls? Maybe some sort of headband/feather? I'm willing to go to one store to find accessories, but I'm not willing to spend half a day (and $$$) hunting for stuff.

I think a long necklace would be too much since the dress already has so much detail. I'd maybe try a headband with black feathers.

You could wear a long string of pearls down your back instead of in front. I agree with the headband, too.

I suck. Why do I wait until the last minute on this stuff? Etsy has some awesome headbands. Oh well. I'll have to see what Target carries.

I have no idea if this would work with that dress but a very 1920's thing to do would be to wear knee high stockings and roll the ends down past your knee. You could buy a cheap-o 99 cent pair and try the idea out.

This outfit idea may work for that dress:

That's a lovely dress, but it's not what I'd consider "vintage". It's much too tight-fitting.
I'd go with understated jewelry (except maybe for earrings) and a feather boa. And a shiny clutch purse.

This party sounds like the Bee's Knees! You might be able to scare up a 'headband' from New Years Eve. also check out the local Party Store - they often have the feathered headbands year round. if you can't find a head band a fascinator might do the trick as well Take some comfy shoes - so if your dogs start barking after cutting the rug you can swap shoes. FWIW: my vanity liscense plates say CATSPJ 5 or Cat's Pajamas.

It's a cute dress, but not very 20s. I think you need 2 accessories to make it work - a boa and a cigarette holder, a headband and long pearls, etc.
If you would wear it again, I'd pop into JoAnn Fabrics and you can probably get something to work.
Or you could get one of the dresses meghan found (thank you Great Gatsby influence on fashion) and be done.

Yeah...can't return the dress. My MIL got it for me - it's a combo bday gift & thank you for doing their taxes. And now I'll admit I'm cheap - I was hoping to have it work for the party AND maybe an office xmas party or two. I don't dress up that much. But I'll go check out some accessories to help it out a bit.

Check the trim aisle at a fabric store. There should be a bit of lace or sequins or beads or something you can pin together as a headband and some cheap-o beads or boas. You'll be fine.

Those long strands of pearls are always at the dollar stores around here. They would probably have feathers and the makings of head bands too.

If you are energetic you could tack a long fringe to the hem of the dress but I don't think it's necessary. And carry a purse with a short chain strap that you can swing around.

How elaborate do people go for these themed parties? Sometimes they can be a real PIA.
A guy in our neighborhood throws a Halloween party every year - which is great, but then he puts a theme on it, too. It kind of pisses me off. It is like I don't get to pick my own costume anymore. Last year I really wanted to be Big Bird (because of Mitt) but it didn't fit the theme. This year - the theme is like zombies or something. Isn't the fun of Halloween to go crazy and do whatever you want?! I don't want to be a zombie. My kids don't want to be zombies.

It won't be funny this year. It was only funny because I was going to be like homeless big bird "Will work for food" with an eye patch and a cup. Remember when Romney said he wanted to cut funding to PBS and everyone said Big Bird would be fired? That day is gone. I might was well dress as OJ and Nichole Simpson to be all relevant and timely.
I don't know squat about zombies. I don't like any of the zombie movies or anything. It isn't my genre. I want to dress as pregnant Kim Kardashian or something.
