I'm extremely curious. What is the printing service product bought almost exclusively by black people? (My guess is one of those funeral fliers that includes the deceased person's obituary - I always see them when I go to a funeral at a predominately black church, but not when I go to one at a predominately white church) Actually my DH does quite a bit of business doing funeral programs for black people. I actually think they are great way to honor the deceased (and it is more business for my DH). They can be as big a 4 pages (full color) with pictures, family history, dedications, etc. He has never done one for a white person's funeral. I have never seen one at a funeral I have gone to but think it is a great idea. When we went to my DHs uncle's funeral, I did not really know him and would have enjoyed hearing his life story and seeing pictures. The product I was actually referring to is lamination. If customers ask for something (and it fits into his business model) he will try to provide service. Where I'm from in the South, all the locals have funeral flyers, regardless of race. It's usually provided by the funeral home as part of the package, at least the funeral homes that I've dealt directly with.

So nobody mentioned strawberry soda! Nearly half my extended family is Mexican and when we have parties at my aunt and uncles they always have grape, orange and strawberry soda! Duh ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/tongue2.png) In the spirit of this thread we have every color in our family that I can think of and there are different things that people like and thats the way of life and we all appreciate each others foods, among other things ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/heart.png)

I will say this about Thanksgiving. One day, before the big TG event, my racially diverse workplace had quite a discussion about what was going to be served for TG in each household. The only differences that we came up with as a group were that white family TG feasts were considered to be lacking by my black coworkers because white families had no plans to serve macaroni and cheese, along with traditional collard greens, with everything else, and shrimp cocktails were planned as appetizer. Squash pie was preferred to pumpkin pie by these families. White families preferred pumpkin pie to squash, plus seemed to like bread or oyster (blech ) stuffing over cornbread, and liked shells and sauce in some cases. White families also tended to either have another type of pie besides pumpkin, or a cheesecake. So, we all had an interesting discussion.

One of my customers came 2 days ago asking if he can bring us chips for sale because he said we don't have chips for black folks! I stared. He said 'you do know that there are chips for blacks and whites'? I was like 'noooooooooo'...he said 'so I will show you'...and I am waiting for him to come back and bring me that LIST!
So...I would not probably write this BUT today the guy comes and asks me why don't we sell black people drinks! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/shocked.gif) And of course he is black! So I go...what kind you want me to sell? He says 'yo, ANY drinks brothers drink'...I go 'like Red Bull'? (I was scared to death mind you)...he goes 'whatever shit you can bring I'll be buying'...so I did not understood still so I am begging you...what kind of drinks was he ordering me to bring?
P.S. I am hboping when I get black folks chips he will be happy customer of mine forever! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) First of all, why were you scared to death? Plantain chips. Ting. Coconut soda.

Interesting Welts. I don't think of that as black people stuff just stuff from the Carribean. Personally I prefer the cassava chips which are less common in grocery stores compared to the plantain chips. And Nasgul, I thought it was supposed to be Sweet Potato pie not squash pie. I am aware of the Macaroni and cheese plus being in NJ with a significant Italian population pasta and sauce is often on the menu. Pasta is not commonly on the menu in any form from the part of the Midwest I came from. Bread, rolls, etc. though are on the menu. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

Do you have any sweet tea in cans or bottles? They like it very sweet. IMHO, this is more a regional than racial preference. Any Southern place I've lived or visited had Sweet Tea (and yes, it's so sweet if you're not used to it it makes your teeth ache...) and both white and black people drank it. If you have a large enough population that wants Sweet Tea, that would actually be a high margin item to make fresh. Brewed tea is inexpensive and the sugar - even the heaps you need to make Sweet Tea - isn't expensive either. Freshly brewed Sweet Tea would be a big draw for people with that preference and you'd make a good profit on it. But just to be clear - you won't make money on it if you have to drive somewhere else to get the supplies each time or if you're delivering it to their house. Can't believe I have to say that, but well, obviously it needs to be said.

So the drink part made some sense, seriously though what are black people chips? They don't eat Lays, Ruffles, and Doritos like us pasty folks? ETA - And the only people I've ever seen eat pork rinds are poor white folks. They must go really well with a 40 of Thunderbird. Beer, soda, fast food, and tobacco companies have marketed differently to different demographic groups for years. And given the sterotypes that popped into all of our heads, it must be working. And yes, the chip companies are totally in on it... ![](http://www.nypost.com/r/nypost/2013/02/20/pulse/web_photos/021913_NewLaysChips_03095310--525x300.jpg) the srirachi chips are pretty good. I'll pass on the other flavors though. I don't care for fruit sodas, pork rinds, collard greens, grits, sweet potato dishes, malt liquor, pig's feet, scrapple, or biscuits and gravy - but I love baked mac and cheese, fried chicken, and sweet tea. Not sure what that makes me.... ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

Yes, there probably are some very subtle physical differences (placement of taste buds maybe?) between different races, but most of the food preferences are based on custom, regional preferences, what you grew up with and associated certain memories with and other things that have nothing to do with your race.

Yeah, I know. You're smart to laugh it off and have a good sense of humor. For some reason, this whole thing is just rubbing me the wrong way.
Maybe because I'm in my mid-40s now and realize that some of the things I've been judged on for a long time are starting to change and will result in new opportunities and challenges - so I'm sensitive to people judging others or drawing conclusions based on physical appearance.

in grade school I used to get teased for "not being black enough". Apparently I was supposed to wear certain clothing, speak a certain way, and not get good grades. I was the only black kid rocking Airwalks in middle school, and yeah I got looks. But I liked what I liked - why should I change because people are small minded? But I can say that I'm happy that I see black people showcasing all types of clothing styles now. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)

This would make sense if Looney had a large demographic group asking for particular things. We have a large Mexican population here and in the past couple of years the supermarkets have started offering specific ethnic products/ingredients that most white bread midwest folks have no clue what to do with.
But to change your inventory based on one very odd souding dude who if I am reading the first post right has not been back since?
That makes no sense to me. How do you know you'll sell enough "chips brothers eat" to make it worth it?

When a person who is not black (or at least perceived to not be black) states that the black culture discourages kids from getting good grades they are jumped all over and called racist. When a (self admitted) black person states they were teased because they did get good grades (when apparently they were expected not to) there is no commentary. So - it that stereotype true or not?

I will never understand why the black kid or the jewish girl (again, just one!) should be expected to be any different than the white kids, Catholic kids, etc.

So - it that stereotype true or not? weeeeellllll...... I wouldn't say that black kids are discouraged from getting good grades - at least not by authority figures. I WOULD say that for POOR and INNER CITY black kids, they generally lack appropriate role models. They (in general) look up to pro athletes and entertainers as well as local entrepreneurs who engage in less than legitimate activities. Never mind that most of these athletes were scouted from college (meaning that they at least had to get into college), that the odds of a person becoming a multi-million dollar pro athlete or entertainer are pretty slim, or that as a drug dealer/pimp you have a pretty high chance of being incarcerated or killed. It's about getting the most return for a relatively little amount of work, although I'm sure that pro athletes and entertainers will tell you that they did not get where they are overnight. That's my view anyway.

I guess I honestly don't understand why you would be teased? Was there a great racial divide in your school? Because we only had one black kid there was no "oh, you're black so you should act this way" type of this (I'm guessing)...of course, if that kid came in dressed and acting like he was from the ghetto he definitely would not have fit in...and probably would have scared the hell out of most of us. We have significantly more minorities in the area since I graduated and race is becoming a bigger issue in the schools.

Jenny! I had no idea you are black. And your signature was making me sick. I thought why would anyone choose such an ugly wording under cute gal picture. Now I am even more upset because you are projecting that there is 'ghetto' in every black person. And I do not want to think that... I think that educated people of all races are equal. And you twisting my arms making me think that educated black people are still have ghetto in them. So sad that it all comes to this!

How is 10 whites, 10 blacks, 10 spanish and 10 indian kids will create an issue? They must create a friendship, wouldn't they?
