Years and years ago, I worked one summer at Six Flags. I had the lowest of the low jobs, and worked in Food Services Pool. Pool meant I filled in for when a "regular" at a food stand didn't show up for work. So, usually, I was assigned the lowest skill level position: Drinks server. I stood behind the soda fountain, scooped ice into cups and asked what they wanted to have to drink, and filled the cup. We had 4 choices: Coke, Sprite,Fanta Orange, and Tab. (This was WAAAAY before Diet Coke.)
White peopleof all ages almost always chose Coke. Sometimes white women would choose Tab.
Black people almost always chose Sprite or Orange. Sometimes the very attractive, slim black women would choose Tab. Sprite was more popular 3 to 1 over Orange.
Black kids would come up and say, "Gimme a drink!". I would always point to the sign above my head, and say, "What kind? We have Coke, Sprite, Orange, and Tab." Invariably, the kid would say, "Sprite."
So, after a couple of days of this, when a black kid would say, "Gimme a drink", I would just make him a Sprite. I was never wrong.
White kids, by the way, always just said, "Give me a Coke".

I live in the South, Looney, and would never post a thread like thisIt
It is actually racist, offensive, and should be probably closed by one of the mods. I know you didn't really mean it that way, but that's the reality.
We have soul food down here . . . ham hocks, greens, etc. It isn't limited to one race. Most of us like collards, turnips, kale, etc. It has to do with seasoning more than the vegetable itself.
But I can't even imagine asking what a particular race likes to drink. That is so offensive.

Southrnsusana,
You may think so, and certainly some of the word choices are not necessarily PC, but I guarantee you producers and marketers are thinking that way.
From the book I'm reading, "over the years coca cola has also paid careful attention to how sales are affected by the gender, race and age of consumers. ... Coke deepened its demographic knowledge by mining the customer loyalty cards of grocery chain shoppers. It learned, for instance, that African Americans tend to like drinks that are not only sweeter, but fruit flavored too."
This is just one example...

I live in the south and I don't think this is racist. Certain people have preferences for different products. 2kids pointed this out quite effectively. She did not say she wouldn't serve coke to a black person, or wouldn't serve sprite to a white person, but you do notice trends.
My DH owns a printing services business. He has one product that is purchased almost exclusively by black people. He noticed a trend. He treats all his customers fairly (unlike some other small businesses here). Since our city is over 70% minority he welcomes their businesses. Some of his best customers are black churches and organizations. All money is green! (or blue for Visa, orange for MC, etc.)
For loony, if your customers are asking for something, find out what they want.

What is the printing service product bought almost exclusively by black people? (My guess is one of those funeral fliers that includes the deceased person's obituary - I always see them when I go to a funeral at a predominately black church, but not when I go to one at a predominately white church)

I actually think they are great way to honor the deceased (and it is more business for my DH). They can be as big a 4 pages (full color) with pictures, family history, dedications, etc. He has never done one for a white person's funeral. I have never seen one at a funeral I have gone to but think it is a great idea. When we went to my DHs uncle's funeral, I did not really know him and would have enjoyed hearing his life story and seeing pictures. The product I was actually referring to is lamination. If customers ask for something (and it fits into his business model) he will try to provide service.

So the drink part made some sense, seriously though what are black people chips? They don't eat Lays, Ruffles, and Doritos like us pasty folks?
ETA - And the only people I've ever seen eat pork rinds are poor white folks. They must go really well with a 40 of Thunderbird.

I really don't know why asking what foods a certain ethinic group likes to eat becomes racist.
My kids are 1/2 Mexican and 1/2 White. They talk about White People food all the time. Last Thanksgiving my BIL's white step child said she wanted to go to her other grandmother's house to eat white people food. This resulted in near disbeleif from most of the family becasue Thanksgiving is an American Holiday with very traditional foods associated with it. DH says nearly every ethnic group serves the same foods for Thanksgiving as every other household in America - probably helped along by the fact that factories used to give their employees a Turkey for Thanksgiving.
My DH cooked the turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing for my White Family and his Mexican Family last year. My White family said the food was very good.
Maybe part of the difference is in how the food is consumed? When my kids eat Cucumbers they put lime and salt on them. When they eat oranges they often put salt on them. My Grandparents used to put sugar or salt on tomatoes too.
When Mexicans eat corn they use lime/salt or mayo and pepper. White people use butter/salt. Similar what they do to fruit or Mangos.
DD likes Tamarind Soda. On black Friday we were waiting in line for vouchers to buy the Door Buster and I went to the food Court and got her Tamarind. The Mexicans in line asked where I got it. Nearly every food vendor in the court had that brand of soda, but only one had her favorite kind.

ETA - And the only people I've ever seen eat pork rinds are poor white folks. They must go really well with a 40 of Thunderbird. Beer, soda, fast food, and tobacco companies have marketed differently to different demographic groups for years. And given the sterotypes that popped into all of our heads, it must be working. And yes, the chip companies are totally in on it... ![](http://www.nypost.com/r/nypost/2013/02/20/pulse/web_photos/021913_NewLaysChips_03095310--525x300.jpg)

My Grandparents used to put sugar or salt on tomatoes too. Not sure if it was a German thing or a Southern thing, but my grandparents also salted cucumbers, oranges, tomatoes, cantaloupes - well, pretty much everything. Until they both had heart attacks. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/undecided.png) As for the other food differences, I think it's more of a regional than a racial thing. I'm white, but when we lived in Phoenix, my family tried, liked and totally adopted a lot of the foods you're listing. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) It's been a huge disappointment to discover how hard it is to find tamarind and mango flavors since we moved to Florida. And OMG, I miss spice sooooo much. Down here, people think a twist of black pepper is "spicy." ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/cry.gif)

Stop bullying me! ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/raspberries.png) There are just some flavors that don't translate well into chip form. Maple syrup is one of them. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/unwell.png)

I agree with Archie, the chicken and waffles tasted like bad fake maple syrup. Gross. I threw away the bag.
I ate the garlic ones but I'd rather have real garlic bread.
And I still want to try real chicken and waffles.

Hope it is still there serving up that syrupy, fried deliciousness with a side of sweet tea and a slice of red velvet cake. My arteries hardened a little just writing that.
