Do you plan out your menus? Or do you cook on the fly? If you do plan, what are your typical menus? I tend to just cook whatever i feel like making. I would like to plan things out a bit more.

We plan out our entire week's menu before we go to the grocery store for the week. We sit at our kitchen table and plan so we can check and make sure we have everything we'll need for all of the meals. It also helps with the things like using up leftovers- if one recipe calls for half of an item we'll have another meal that week that will use the other half.
We have a one of those big desk calendars that we put magnets on that hangs on the side of our fridge that we track all of our activities on. So on busy nights we purposely plan easier to prepare meals.
Meal planning has made life so much easier. Plus because we know at 7 am what we are having for dinner we are less likely to eat out during the week.

Well, I live alone, but, I still try to have a loosely planed menu each week. I end up eating a lot of leftovers, so, I usually will plan 2-3 meals and fill in with leftovers, or something easy like grilled cheese and soup, or big salad, etc. on the nights I don't cook. I try to get a couple types of meat out to thaw on Sunday. I usually just write my "ideas" on a magnetic notebook on the fridge. I work full time and get home at all different times, so, that is also part of the reason I just keep a loose plan cuz I may need to change it quick if I end up working late and am too hungry/don't feel like cooking a big meal.

I plan enough meals for the whole week. Some of the nights have specific meals that I make on that day because of scheduling. Like, we often have BLT's and salad or soup on Thursday, because the 4 of us are going in 6 different directions at 9 different times (don't ask me how - but activities can become quite exponential.) Because I'm gone most of the day, I get up in the morning, and decide what we are going to have that night, and take whatever we need out of the freezer so it will be defrosted in time. We have been known to punt a meal from Tuesday to Wednesday and get a pizza instead.
Tonight we are having chicken, potatoes and asparagus.
