"House Democrats say Justice Thomas should recuse himself in health-care case" Seventy-four House Democrats have signed a letter to Clarence Thomas asking the Supreme Court justice to recuse himself from any deliberations on the constitutionality of the national health care overhaul, arguing that his wife's work as a lobbyist creates "the appearance of a conflict of interest." The move is the latest indication that the court battle over the health-care law's constitutionality -- which is expected to be ultimately decided by the Supreme Court -- has already become a political tit-for-tat. "The appearance of a conflict of interest merits recusal under federal law," the House Democrats wrote. "From what we have already seen, the line between your impartiality and you and your wife's financial stake in the overturn of health-care reform is blurred. Your spouse is advertising herself as a lobbyist who has 'experience and connections' and appeals to clients who want a particular decision -- they want to overturn health-care reform. Moreover, your failure to disclose Ginny Thomas's receipt of $686,589 from the Heritage Foundation, a prominent opponent of health-care reform, between 2003 and 2007 has raised great concern." The House Democrats' letter follows a suggestion made by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) last week that Supreme Court Justice Elana Kagan should recuse herself from any consideration of the health care law's constitutionality because of her previous position as U.S. Solicitor General. ... more of the article at: voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2011/02/house-democrats-say-justice-th.html

I think a better course of action is for every member of both houses who took campaign donations from the insurance and health care industries, big pharm, big labor union lobbyists(for waivers), and big corporations, should recuse themselves from any sort of vote on the issue.

Random people pulled from a phone book would do a better job. Forget electing these creeps- all that ensures is a millionaires club beholden to special interests.

Thomas should not recuse himself from anything unless he himself accepted funds. Get a grip people, we have little control if any over our spouses decisions in life...What you do not believe me? then tell your spouse to stop doing something you yourself would not do but is something she/he believes in. Good luck.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA. Like Thomas would listen to a bunch of ideologues in Congress or on message boards. This is nothing more than the expected whining by those who will not get their way. What reason in the world would Thomas listen to such a feigned outcry by advocates for one side of a case he is about to hear? Answer - none! It's nothing more than a shallow attempt to keep open minded judges from hearing the case. But, that is exactly the sort of dirty, back-stabbing tactics we are used to from the loser left.
