I used to but now too many discussions are about "Obummer" and how it's all his fault that they are broke (or whatever President pissed them off) and then a political battle ensues... Zzzzzzzz
I used to love the comments section before that. It was a lot like the old MSN days. Regardless of the subject those conversations were interesting and informative.

I am sure I will get an official demerit or something for saying this but on the old MSN forum you could have conversations and debate. Here it is kick the poster that doesnt fit in. You have a problem with that you get a demerit or piled on or something. Of course you can talk about cats or what do you think about this loser I know or my work has this such and such thing going on, what do you think. Steve, your assessment is brilliant.

The comment section of most articles sound like a bunch of teenage dropouts pretending to be adults. Either that or the vast majority of the US population is fucking stupid. Not a little slow, not a touch behind, but painfully fucking stupid.

No but I do fondly remember the days before the internet when it seemed like people were smarter. I guess the dumber ones were unemployed so everyone else interacted with them less. Now they're all online 24/7 throwing their dumbassery around for the whole world to see. Then again, the internet blew up around the time I was 12. Maybe before that people seemed smarter because I was a little kid.

More likely the former. All I know is that I remember a lot of people not seeming very smart even when I WAS a little kid.

wrongside, I have very opposite feelings on the comments section. I'm just speaking from the experience we have at the newspaper I work for, but those things cause us more problems than anything. People say the most awful things. It takes a tremendous amount of manpower (that we just don't have) to monitor them. If comments that are offensive get left up, people call and complain. When we have shut down comments on a story because the overwhelming amount of comments are offensive, people call and complain. If we ban a certain poster or delete a specific comment, people call and complain. The comments are a giant headache that cause a lot of bad feelings among our community members.
We would like to end commenting online altogether, but our corporate will not allow us.
