Bunny's thread got me thinking. How did you meet your SO? DH and I met through friends when I was 18. It took us years to start dating but it was nice to have that period of time where we were friends without having to impress each other.

DH's parents met through a Catholic singles group.
My biological parents met when my mom was volunteering at a hospital and my dad was in the navy.
My guardians met when they were both working at a mental hospital.
I have friends that got married after meeting on the internet.

She was the online friend of a friend. She came out to meet him and party in Vegas for New Year's Eve 1999, and I stole his woman. It was supposed to be a vacation fling, but we kept in touch after she left. Romantical right?

I was a wee bit tipsy with my pal who saw him across the club. She dragged me over to him and his friend to say hi, that was the beginning of a foursome friendship until he asked me if I wanted to see his CD collection

We went to HS together, but didn't start dating until he graduated from college.
I had an insane crush on DH in HS, and he ignored my advances. Repeatedly.
Finally, after yet another futile attempt of me coming on to him, I told him we would end up together some day.
I wasn't being particularly serious about that, though.

7th grade homeroom. Marrying our HS sweethearts seems to be a trend in our families... my MIL, sister, older SIL, and cousin are engaged/married to the same guys they've dated since 14 or 15. Bonus/peril of a small town. My dad met my mom when she started working as his father's paralegal. They went to the same HS and lived a few streets apart for most of their childhoods, but didn't know each other.

I don't have a SO, but I met my ex-husband waiting on a long line at McDonald's. Yes; fast food is bad for you, LOL.

New Years Party at our college alma mater several years after we both had graduated. The party was given by his college roommate (who I had gone to high school with) and his wife. I was invited via my best friend who was dating the brother of DH's roommated. How convoluted is that? The funny part is that the brother tried to talk DH out of dating me. He thought I was too much of a goody two-shoes. He apologized to me about 5 years ago. DH and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary on Tuesday.

I met my ex on a blind date set up by his best friend. Only it wasn't really a blind date because I knew his brother and he had gone out with my best friend once a few years before.
I met DH in an AOL chatroom back in 1998 in the era of "You've Got Mail." I have no idea exactly why, but he IMed me one day when I was writing email to another online friend. He asked me what I was doing, I told him, and he asked me to please send him email. I am actually a really good writer so I did. We eventually progressed to IMing and then talking on the phone. My sister said it must have taken a real leap of faith to have met each other, but I don't think so. We had talked about six months before meeting because of the distance. We were really more like good friends for a long time.
Rukh, your story made me laugh!

His father came to give a sermon at our church. He and his younger brother walked in and I took one look and told my friend, I'm going to marry him. His family was going for lunch with another family and I pulled some strings to get my family invited also. He doesn't remember me from that incident. He did remember talking to my older brother about skiiing. I was fourteen. A couple of years later we moved down the street from his family and both families have been close ever since. Started dating at 19. Married at 21. As weird as it seems there was that instant connection. No logical way to explain it. He didn't stand a chance.

I met my late DH on the computer. We used to hang out in a music room put on by Yahoo (before all the public rooms were closed) We talked online for 2 years. His wife was in an institution for the mentally ill. She had tried to commit suicide several times.
She finally succeeded in her efforts and my late DH was VERY upset. We wound up talking on the phone a lot - just as friends. After she had been gone a year, I felt comfortable enough to invite him out for a vacation. He had never been to California. He came out in August and stayed for 8 days. I didn't want him to leave and he didn't want to go home. He invited me out at Christmas to meet his family and he proposed to me on Christmas Eve. I had to leave to come home on January 3rd to go back to work. He thought I would forget about him when I got home so we married in the judges chambers on January 2nd before I left.
We had 5 1/2 beautiful years together before he passed away quite suddenly in 2009. I miss him every day!

I met my husband a work. He was my boss for 2 years! We didn't start dating til after I had gotten a new job. About 6 months after I quit working for him, he invited me to a party thrown by one of his business partners, and everyone there kept saying, we didn't know you two were dating! I was like, uh, we aren't. After the party he took me out for a drink and I told him what everyone was saying. He said, would it be so terrible if we were dating?! That was 7 years ago and we've been married 2.5 years now!

I was working for one of his dads businesses. The manager of the store was stealing and the dad sent DF to find out what was going on. I came to work to find him on the floor counting inventory and the other female employee telling me that was THE BOSS MAN! He was our age so I was like WTF? Anyway, we started dating, dated all through college and after until his stepmom got involved and then my parents got involved and so we broke up. We each married USERS and divorced them and now we are happily together.

We both knew a girl who liked him. He didn't like her so to get back at him she 'hooked' him up with me. I wore glasses, even back then - wearing glasses meant that you were ugly, no one wore them, just me. I was 14, he was 16. Even though I shouldn't have been picky (the glasses thing) I couldn't stand him most of the time. He irritated me. It didn't matter if he was drop dead gorgeous, I thought he had to be self centered because of his looks. He never gave up. I married him after college and had 4 children with him. My heart was broken when he passed after 40 plus years together. Shattered was more like it. No one ever loved me the way that man did. He taught me so much about compasaion and kindness along with strength. Real strength. He told me that the day he met me he knew he wanted me as his wife. Funny thing is all of our children followed suit. They married people who they thought were idiots when they first met them. Could this be the deciding factor for a mate? Yup.
