So this might not be money related (does work count?) but this just happened to me.
I'm taking a new role within the company and we are going to be posting some new roles that will report under me so my new boss decides to send me a resume of one of the candidates and it is my old boss!!!
I worked for him in a different company, he was horrible, threw me under the bus in many instances, I decided to quit my job and within a month after I left he was gone (I guess he was on a performance improvement plan)! He got a job with my new company about 4 years ago and I guess now he applies for every job out there so that he can move on from his current role (I'm surprised he's still with us), so when I saw his name I was like "well isn't life a bitch!"
Needless to say, he will not be getting interviewed and he's been burning bridges with people already and is not getting a good rep.
This is why you need to be nice to everyone because you never know who could be your boss!!!

Now no one can say, is it ironic that you you say that karma exists yet you have none?

man does that take a long time to work ....4 years with the company + years working within his horrible management to now see the benefit. restless you should post this in the "things you wish you knew before you were hired thread"

At the end of the day, you coud do the best job you can, be smart and ambitious but if you don't know how to connect, build relationships and play politics then the career might not get very far in that corporation. Sad but true.

Wait, if you dislike the guy so much why WOULDN'T you interview him? I'd be chomping at the bit to interview a former boss who I left and now disliked.

...:::"Needless to say, he will not be getting interviewed and he's been burning bridges with people already and is not getting a good rep.":::...
Hoops beat me to it. I would TOTALLY love the opportunity to drive the point home by having someone who used to abuse me learn that I hold the key to his/her future employment. The look on his face when he saw you... oooooh worth every second.
And who knows, if he has changed, maybe he could be an asset to the company and you can laugh about how things used to be together. If not, you can hire another candidate.

I would interview him just to see the look on his face when he sees you now outrank him (tee hee). Not that you have to let him get beyond the interview stage.... Tell us what happens next! What a great position for you to be in! "Long time, no see!"

I don't think I would want to interview a past PIA boss. Not sure I could keep my mouth shut and have the pretense of a legit interview.
Although the possibility is intriguing. LOL

Don't turn karma against you! And most likely he won't know that he pissed you off so badly.

Is karma still karma if the person doesn't know why he didn't get the job? Yeah, the OP can circular file the old boss's resume, but old boss will be clueless as to why he didn't get any further.
Karma's biting him in the butt, but he has no idea.

Yes, it would be nice to interview him but if we are not considering him a possibilty then I can't justify making the expense of flying him in and such.
He's been applying for a lot of jobs but I heard he's not very good at following up when called so he's getting a bad rep in the company already.

Didn't realize you'd have to fly him in. Ugh! Then just interview the good candidates. (But it is fun to imagine the interview you could have had!) "Sorry, you're just not what we're looking for." LOL!

Awesome! I had a similiar experience. I worked with a guy who kept telling me that he was brought in to mentor me. I never learned anything from him, and my boss said that he was absolutely NOT brought in to mentor me. This guy was totally full of himself. He actually had some decent skills, but he was so obnoxious it was tough to work with him. His resume came across my desk years later. I told my boss I was going to waste an hour of work time just to get revenge - but I ended up deciding he wasn't worth the time. I was super-busy at work - if I was going to waste on hour, it would have been on YM.
