If you ask some of the crazies it's because we've murdered our tax base. Duh. Get with the right wing program!

Link? Article?
I am still left wondering how eroding the tax base(ie: middle class) is helping the country. I am still not getting how growing the poverty class helps the US?

Oh, I was unaware. I am focused on much more pressing and important issues.

The government needs to GET OUT OF THE BEDROOM & get back to (if they ever have) running the country wisely. Moral issues should between people, not lawmakers. It's like they can't even do their jobs correctly so they dink around on other stuff.

Left-wing totalitarian governments (like China, North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, etc.) depend on three characteristics among their population to enable them to exert control:
1. A population in debt or mired in unending poverty, and thus dependent on the central government for everything (it seems we're well along on that path). 2. A population unarmed (the long-standing dream of the left wing). 3. A population uneducated (in the past, they have achieved this by imprisoning or murdering educated citizens. The current plan in the US seems to be preventing people from getting educated in the first place through the neglect and subsequent decline of the public school system).
How are we doing so far?

So, when will prostitution become legalized?

I quite agree. However, the newly elected House members clearly have other priorities.

I am not pro abortion, but am a realist. Making abortions illegal will not stop unprotected sex or abortions. It will just make them more dangerous. A cottage abortion industry is not a good way to stimulate the economy.

I completely concur. However, (again) the majority elected to the House members who ignore that very rational attitude and prefer to mandate their version of morality.

As I posted on another thread, the House GOP is now pushing a bill that would deny tax credits to companies offering health plans that cover abortions and prevent individual taxpayers from claiming a tax deduction for their health premium if their private plan covers abortions. Note: "private plan"....
They got elected on an economic agenda, but how many of their proposals have been about the economy?

Regulating it *might* just work better than our current system.

"Consent" is a very slippery word... No means no, Ed. And if she's legally underage or passed out that means no too.

The Republicans like the Democrats from the last few years get all excited about pleasing certain segments of their base and these bills dealing with insurance deductions most likely involve some of the same stuff. As we found out last November the voters can throw them out if they appear to be making political hay instead of doing the people's business which right now should be making spending cuts the priority. On the other hand independent voters seem to also be quite turned off by the opposition misrepresenting things. In this case the Republicans are clearly trying to keep our tax money from being used to fund abortions. So starting threads stating that Republicans are trying to slip through a tax increase is simply not the truth in my personal independent opinion. I have issues with both major parties but sometimes have to make choices that include people from these parties and can say misrepresentation will only hurt your cause.

I agree with your first statement. But, the result of what they are trying to do clearly raises taxes - on both insurance companies AND individuals. They want to reduce taxes - but they want to raise them - for people (and companies) who don't follow their particular ideology.
And - this is not the platform they ran on and were voted into office on.

The GOP need to drop this, making abortion front and center is the quickest way to lose independents. My solution to the entire issue is to adopt the fair tax, then government no longer has the tool of taxation to try and control behavior.

They can't help themselves. And it will probably cost them the 2012 election. Unless the leadership reins them in.
