The dreaded gray hair... They've probably been there for a while but I didn't notice them until I put my contacts in.
So now I get to decide if I'm going to just go with it or start coloring. FWIW I'm 33.
What did you all do?

I started coloring at 26. I found my first gray at 19.

Blond, sorry ... My mom started coloring as soon as her mother pointed out her new grays...

I started highlighting and coloring my hair in my 20's because I'm shallow and vain. I didn't get any gray hairs until much later. But I'm still in denial and call them my really high highlights.

I was getting noticeably grey at age 18, and started to color my hair somewhere in my mid twenties. But based on the age when I started to go gray, I have decided that I am still young despite the fact that I highly doubt that there is even one black/brown hair left. But, as I know, going gray is teen business so I'm young and I'm sticking to it

I color it. I don't mind a bit of gray but it is doesn't seem to want to style. It likes to do its own thing. I do at a home with a $3 box of Loreal or whatever the brand is and i often just do the roots. If you only do your whole head everytime, it will get brassy. I have brown hair so i like it stay brown, i don' t care for red undertones. You could also consider getting it highlighted then you woudln't necessarily have to dye it.

I have dark, dark, nearly black hair, and I've had stray white hairs since high school. I'm 32 now. I ignore it. Probably helps that I don't wear my glasses when getting ready in the morning.

I'm 27 and the gray hairs are overtaking my head. Well, not really, but I do have a large crop of them in one specific area. My hairdresser found some in my early 20s and then last March when I was 26, I found a whole bunch all at once. Today I am cutting off my hair and dying it.

I have been coloring my hair since I was 15- I had some gray at the time. Fastforward to now- I'm 32 and I'm pretty sure if I let me natural color grow out, at least half of my hair would be gray. I can only assume that my graying was due to stress. As a teen I lived with my father who was dying of cancer. I grayed quite a bit between 15 and 17 when he passed away. I've also gotten even more gray since getting married lol I think I have more gray in my hair than both of my OLDER (by 6 and 9 years!) sisters put together. A small price to pay since I have the best hair of the three of us.

Meh - gray hair. Not the worst problem on the planet.

I have been coloring my hair since HS (I inherited my Mom's "dishwater brown" hair. Nice thing is that it sucks up color so I can be whatever color I feel like without too much trouble). I found my first gray hair on my 28th Birthday. For all I know I could have been going gray for years but because I have been coloring my hair for so long I never noticed before then. And thyme is right that there are worse things than having gray hair (but I am still going to color them anyway! ).

I'd rather have gray hair than my cellulite. It's easy to get rid of the gray hair.

I was out with my 2 young friends - they are both in their late 20's, meanwhile I'm 44. After a couple bottles of wine, I was blown away with how hard they are on themselves. First off, it was ridiculous. Second, it was brutal. Their hands were weird, one has a vein in her forehead, the other has too round of a face. They had each put on a couple of pounds, their second toe was longer than their first toe, and it was all so hideous. They are both beautiful women who are in great shape. I told them to not be so hard on themselves as there is no profit from it. First off, it was very, very boring to sit there and listen to them whine about minor (or non-existent) physical imperfections. I know I was suppose to sit there and lavish attention on them about how they are so beautiful, and blah, blah, blah - but seriously, you aren't the first person to turn 30, and you are doing it better than most. Second, why focus on the aging process? Sure, stay healthy, stay in shape, color your hair, wear make-up or get facials, buy clothes that fit well and you look good in - whatever makes you happy, but to focus on one earlobe being longer than other? Get over yourself. No one cares, no one is looking at you that carefully, and it will only bring you down. Embrace your one gray hair. Embrace your 4 wrinkles. Embrace who you are and enjoy. There is no turning back.

I'm thinking I'll go ahead and color my hair. I hate maintenance on such things but my aunt on my dads side visited yesterday and it doesn't look like I've got genes to go salt and pepper or white. Just more and more gray will dilute my regular color which I think will make me look "old". I think I'm going to do henna. I prefer it over the chemical treatments, but it will take quite a bit of experimenting to figure out a good shade. I'll just add it to the todo list.

rae, when I had enough of the gray to notice (more than a person would care to spend time to pull out is how I defined it) I bought Clairol Natural Instincts that lasts through 28 shampoos. I had very dark brown hair. I chose a color a few shades lighter. I did it myself, and only the gray absorbed that color, and it looked like I had random lighter browns interspersed with the dark brown. A friend once asked me where I got my hair highlighted that they could do individual hairs like that.
I'm more gray now. My stylist is inexpensive enough that I can get it cut and colored every 6-8 weeks, highlights and tip included, for $105. I have very thick hair. If I have to give up the stylist when I retire and my income is slashed, I'll go back to the semi-permanent color but I'll get two boxes. One box stretched the color too much.
Anyway, now that the stylist is doing it/I have more gray and less dark brown/it's only going to get worse from here on out, I'm going lighter. It's a medium dark brown with highlights.

I started noticing some grays around 30 now, at 35, I've got lots. I color my hair, but right now I don't have a color that's close to my natural color. It's just what I like right now.
DD noticed my gray hairs the other day. It hasn't even been that long since I got a color. It must be bad when then 3-year-old notices ...
