What do y'all think of the EFTPS for personal tax payment? Is there any risk that they will slip up and instead of taking the correct amount ($79) from my checking account they'll instead seize the whole thing...all $80K...?. This would be very inconvenient for me so maybe I shouldn't take the risk at all. But it would be so convenient for the amended return I am mailing this morning.
I also forget, am I supposed to write my SS # on my payment check? That seems like a perfect invite for identity fraud once that's out in the banking system.

oops, I wrote my tax payment check to the 'Internal Revenue Service'. Not to the 'US Treasury'. Is that a problem? It's not in the mail box yet but the envelope is sealed. sign me, "goofball"

I"ve been paying estimated quarterly tax payments since 2002 and they have never taken the wrong amount out of my checking account. I have also made the check out to the IRS instead of US Treasury with no problems.

When I was an IRS agent, we never made people tear up checks and re-write them if they were made out to IRS or Internal Revenue Service. We could not accept cash.

direct payments is the way of the future.
some states, California by example, if your tax is above certain thresholds all estimaes MUST be paid ACH debit through their website. In NY, all corporate estimated tax payments MUST be made by ACH debit.
