Is this what I'm supposed to be seeing? If so, then it's pretty crappy advice.<!-- START comscore noscript tag v2.0 --><noscript></noscript><!-- END comscore noscript tag v2.0 --><!-- fe305.global.media.bf1.yahoo.com uncompressed/chunked Mon Feb 4 09:31:09 UTC 2013 -->

I am having mixed feelings. While overall I'm a little , this review was written with the authors slant, and there are some nuggets in there that I might agree with. As a mother of a son, I do think sometimes in our emphasis of daughters, we can minimize boys... And we tend to re-write more inherent male behaviors/ strengths as abnormal and place less value on them today. I also think, having been trying to discuss the SAH thing with Miss T, that there are sometimes issues with allowing ourselves, whoever we may be, to rely on each other, without feeling dependent. maybe I'll look at the actual book, although, I'm guessing Will probably still be my overall reaction. I don't like extreme...

I want my boys to embrace being men and my girls to embrace being women. I also hope that I am teaching them to respect themselves AND others no matter their gender. When I read articles like this it makes me think of men who think women are less than they are because they have a vagina. I do agree that sometimes society does leans too far towards making men feel like they shouldn't act like men.
I have no problem with being a SAHM. I have been one for most of my marriage. I am currently one again. My husband and I are a team and we compliment each other with what we bring to the family. I am the one who takes care of all the household things and kids. He makes the money, but that doesn't mean I am submissive to him and that he is the head of the household. WE are a team. I don't do the SAHM thing because I am a woman. I do it because that is what currently works for the needs of our family. I personally would not have a problem with him being a SAHD if that is what worked best for our family. He has a much much higher earning power than I do though so I am sure it will probably never happen.
I have no problem with men being masculine and women being feminine. I do have a problem with being told how I should act/think because I am a woman. I also have a problem with being told that my beliefs of marriage being an equal partnership is what is ruining marriage. That is what I get from articles like this.

I read excerpts from that article to my husband, it was on Slate.
He's baffled by guys who want a trophy wife/submissive woman. He likes me for me. And he likes it that I don't prance around in high heels.
It takes all kinds...........

trophy wives are just for display
the few i have known, have near zero brains, and even less common sense
i guess if the guy at the country club is trying to impress his friends, they are wonderful, up until the time they actually try to speak
i prefer intelligent, hard working, and compassionate myself
and i found her nine years ago......

As someone who majored in history and took some anthropology classes, I'm really uncertain how being a "gatherer" - you know, going out of the house and gathering things the family needed to survive (fruits and berries, grains, firewood) turned into dressing up and prancing around in high heels. In hunter/gatherer culture, yes, men went out and hunted the meat. And women gathered EVERYTHING else the family/tribe needed to survive- all while taking care of the kids. And this included being able to care for the family/tribe when men went on weeks' long hunts. I'm pretty certain I'd call those working mothers.

I guess they'll let anyone write an article these days.

Is she related to that congressman who thinks you can't get pregnant due to the body's natural defenses?
