Based on his performance before the Committee to confirm Hagel as Secretary of Defense, I believe the President and his staff is re-evaluating their choice this morning.
He was totally unprepared for the questions asked of him, and everyone knew those questions were coming. The questions were not unexpected. Senators had warned they would be asked.
Granted, the questions were not the correct questions to be asked of a Secretary of Defense nominee, for this position, but due to the fact Hagel was the nominee, with the negative Senate background history previously built by him over the years, the Administration knew the questions were coming.
The panel looked more like they were grilling Mafia leaders in an anti-American activities Senate hearing...
The President has to understand that after the fiasco of Secretary Rice, he does have an ability to be held free from the ususal mud slinging tactics of Congress. It never sticks to him, but his associates, are not quite that fortunate.
Hillary was even an example when she finally appeared for the query on the Libya assassination and fell far short of a successful appearance.
They even admitted Hagel had been prepped for the hearing, but based on his performance, he did not have a freakin clue......

I find it interesting that McCain grilled him much harder than he did Hillary.

Based on Hagel's knowledge of DOD operations, ... Based on Hagel's views of DOD policy issues, ... Based on Hagel's administrative abilities, ... I don't support his confirmation as Secretary of Defense.  I can support that. Based on Hagel's performance facing congressional grilling on irrelevant issues, I don't support his confirmation as Secretary of Defense.  I can't support that. I don't know if he should or shouldn't hold the position. I just question the process of determining whether he should nor not. |
