The sports page now reads more like the gossip columns.

Does that change your opinion of him? Should he be shunned like Tiger Woods, made to apologize or is it no big deal since he apparently has been taking care of the child and he and his wife worked it out?

(case in point, this thread)

I find it interesting how for one athlete everyone will go ape over some indiscretion and for another, not a peep. Why is that?

because some of us have never actually liked this idiot, and hope that this might finally be the reason that he just fades off into the sunset like he should have done when he retired? I could keep going, would you like me to?

I am just using this as a broader point for a discussion. Why was there so much outrage over other fallen athletes like Tiger Woods? Or, we see that human beings aren't perfect so why won't we let Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame?

Tiger Woods wasn't with "A" woman. He was more of a sex addict with a ton of ladies. The biggest part of it was he allowed his image to be presented as squeaky clean. It was for advertising purposes to get kids, and families to buy the products he endorsed. The image was a lie just like Lance Armstrong's was a lie. So, it came crashing down around his ears. I don't know of anyone that thought Dan M was the epitomy of morality. The thing peeps are waiting to see is if his wife leaves him, and there are more mistresses in the woodwork. Pete Rose was gambling on ball games. It would put any of his losses in question. He knew the stakes going into it, and violated the law. So, he paid the piper.

b/c Marino wasn't ever the single face of football, and he wasn't a gigantic asshole while he was at his prime (Tiger)
and I'd be okay with letting Pete into the HoF, so maybe I'm not the right person to ask?

I was a big fan of Pete Rose's when he played baseball. Even tho he was a hot headed loud mouth. What he did brings into question his honesty during his career. Did he help throw games over gambling? We don't know. It is part of why he can't get into the HOF.

I disagree. So, if someone makes a mistake years later, then that somehow negates their career? The records should be the records and leave the moral judgements out of them. Otherwise, i am SURE we could go through anyone's life and find some skeleton.

It isn't an eternal damnation. What he did was directly related to the sport in which he was involved. It was purely illegal, and he is lucky he didn't go to jail. Rose agreed to permanent ineligibility. He is permanently ineligible by his own agreement. He isn't the only one going to be banned because of being permanently ineligible. He should have thought about it before he he gambled much less agreed to the terms to escape possible jail time.

Perhaps. But, i just think the records are the records. The records are what they are. Having everyone pass some moral litmus test just seems like some people are going to be given a pass and some will be overblown for lesser things.

There's a difference between being disqualified for breaking a law (Rose) and being a douche (Tiger). As for Dan Marino, an affair is different than illegal gambling or paying for sex. If a tarnished record or image means not being entered into the HoF or losing a product endorsement or two, so be it. It goes with the territory (sports).

If records are just records, what about all the ones who used performance enhancing drugs? Those are still records.

Did he "pay" for sex aka prostitution? And, Marino gave millions to his mistress as well.
