I've started it a few times, but never finished.

I got about a quarter of the way through but didn't finish it either. Tried at least a couple of times to read it but just couldn't get into it.

I finished it a few months ago. Some chapters got a bit long but most of it I liked.

I read it the first time when i was 16... several times through my 20s... although i still like a few quotes, i've managed to shed most of the Rand mythology that i was brought up with... it does make a pretty good fairy tale though...

High School required reading & I read it again a couple of years ago.
It was a good read, but kind of depressing. I guess I don't like stories where doing the right thing doesn't work out so well.
Ha Ha Swamp - I got PINK!!

It is painful to cull through sometimes but some of the reading is great quoteworthy material.

I've started, but never finished. I have it on audio, and it puts me to sleep. I need to get it in print.

Breezy the print will get you too. It took about 1/3 of the way in to get interesting and it is still full of hard to read writing. My dh has it on audio book and that works for him.

Thanks for the encouragement, Naggie. I've never made it past the 1/3 point. I find when I'm listening to it on audio, I tend to multi task and lose track easily. If only I could focus! I haven't given up, though.

I read this. Great story and interesting, but flawed(imo) philosophy. I'd say more about that BUT if you're not at the end I don't want to give you a spoiler. I'm not as impressed with Dagny as some were - but I'll save that until you finish, as well.

I've read it several times. Love the story, but the philosophy is a bit simplistic. It made a big impression on me when I was younger. As I've matured, I'm less impressed with it. I certainly don't consider it a masterpiece.

It's a plodding book. I found that I had to force myself to keep reading it. Kind of like a high school reading assignment (yuck!). Makes a good point, at the time I thought it had some great quotes (not that I remember any of them now), but to me it was duuuuuullllllllll.
Now, Rand's essays are wonderful reads. Direct, penetrating views of society and its machinations. Much better than either of her novels.

Maybe I'll just wait until the movie comes out, lol.

I've read it lots of times and most of Rand's other work. That said, I think Rand's philosophy has lots of holes and her view on women leaves something to be desired. I've heard Angelina Jolie is going to be Dagney in the movie, ugh! (actually, just the whole movie part is UGH too!)

WOW, hadn't heard that there really will be a movie. For the person that talks about the women in the book, I believe that is the sign of the time not really Ayn Rands view. It is difficult to read, and I skip over the long drawn out internal discussions and feelings. I like the premise of the book, and I find it incredibly shameful about the real point of the book.
