This month has been pretty good for me - I'm down six pounds and am making progress on my exercise goals. My size 4s fit well, and I can see some definition in my arms, yada yada yada.
But then last night I put my DS8 in a gymnastics class. Since he's on the autism spectrum, I shadowed for the class to keep him on task and help with exercises (he has horrific muscle tone - very weak). Anyway, being in the gym close to all these gymnasts, I felt like an absolute cow. They are all so muscular (men) and tiny (women)! By the end of the hour I felt like a middle aged fatty.
What is it about us that makes us compare so much? On the positive side, I'm motivated to lift extra hard today. But geez it's depressing that my sense of accomplishment can be so easily destroyed.

It's hard, I guess it's just part of being human. We all have a desire to compare ourselves to others. I am not a big man, at 5'8" I may actually be on the small side. But at almost 200 lbs, with a high muscle concentration and low body fat, I can move more weight than most. However, I still feel rather small and insignificant. I constantly have to remind myself, it doesn't matter what you do, there is always going to be someone better. I think that is why so many get discouraged and just give up, especially when it comes to fitness.

Just wait until you hit your 60s and muscles are difficult to keep toned. The muscles slips easier and appears flabby even when pumped up. The muscle takes more work for less show. Any time off makes getting back on track harder.
I know this is gloomy but the bottom line is - keep after the fitness.
