Tommy Lee Jones doesnt know what to do with himself in a non-action movie, but that discomfort actually made him more realistic as the puzzled husband.
Meryl Streep is always good as a slightly dingy female-is she really dingy in person?
The movie doesn't address well the burden on husbands of wives who aren't full partners-the Streep/female viewpoint about nonsupportive husbands overpowers that.
Steve Carrell was great as the counselor. Every time they were in session I thought that anyone out there with older parents in troubled and/or dead marriages should give this movie to their parents to watch.
Odd, strange, beach scene-wonder whose idea that was?

We just watched this and I'm not sure what you mean about the beach scene. At the end?
**SPOILER! Don't read further down. Not that this was any great mystery. LOL!
They renewed their vows and had a beach ceremony.
