So I found the best scam ever. It is legal, takes 20 minutes and got me $24 free. Bank of America opened a "registry" so that people can buy gift cards for your child's 529. Stupid idea, but here is where the scam comes in. They partnered with living social to get the word out, and a $50 gift card only costs $24 for the next five days. Well, grad students can also have 529s. I can open the vanguard account for myself for $25, buy the gift card for $24, open the gradsave account, insert gift card, then transfer money to vanguard. I then have $75 that I can use for my tuition next semester. I can also repeat this for my husband. So basically, for 20 minutes worth of effort, I get a free $24. Sadly, you can only buy one per person/beneficiary. I am planning to tell all the grad students at my school though. FREE MONEY
Oh, and parents this does work for your kids too.
