I received a PM from Martyn Dale, who is PB's tech support guy. This is the majority of it (bolded/colored emphasis mine):
This point leader in the contest has already said (on a thread on their board) that they do not plan to upgrade on Monday. That means it would go to the current 2nd place holder. If they want to, we will not get the option to upgrade until Wednesday. But if they *don't* want to, it would go to us.
So, what that means is that if we do get that chance on Monday, we may not get much notice at all. I will do my best to give it if I can, though.
If we do it on Wednesday, you can probably figure I will do it early in the morning when I get to work (I start at 6 am) because that time of day there aren't usually too many online and I'd like to minimize impact as much as possible. However, it will depend on how busy it is when I get in.
I just want everyone to be aware of what's going on and when.
As of 6 pm mountain on Sunday, Jan 13, it is almost a given that we will be upgrading tomorrow, based on contest points. It is NOT A GUARANTEE, as the other forum could rally and overtake us again. But, we have a decent lead...
There is no set time yet, but I would speculate that it will take place sometime late morning/early afternoon my time. Martyn says he'll try for a couple hours after he gets in, and he usually gets in around 9 am pacific. But that's no guarantee either..

no. as i said in the PM i sent out some time ago, your account already exists. you'll sign in as you normally do. in fact, they've now simplified the upgrade process so it should (hopefully) be pretty seamless. Here is the screenshot I provided in another thread. We recently simplified the entire upgrade process for this exact reason. Too many people couldn't handle the old Upgrade page. Now members will be able to log in with their username and password, just like always. Literally nothing is changing except for the way the login screen looks. But that isn't until you convert your forum, so you can warn all your members as far in advance as you feel you need to. After the upgrade the first time they login they will still go through an upgrade process. They will login with their username and password like normal (we removed the word email entirely from the login page). The upgrade has been simplified to simply visually verifying the email linked to their username and entering a new password ( which can be the old one) twice. That's it. We removed the other fields. We removed the requiring an email to login. If a member values security and wants to switch to an email login (which we highly recommend) then they can change the setting on their ProBoards Account settings page. I made you a screenshot of the new Upgrade page. Feel free to use this as a demo to your members for what to expect.  |

If it's changed already I don't see any difference? when I went to the beta version it for sure looked different,,was I left behind in the twilight zone? ;D
