This Friday I will make my speed dating debut. Yes, ladies it is hard to believe but I'm still single. If you're not familiar with speed dating I will get to interview, errr, talk for about 5-7 minutes with each member of the opposite sex until I have met everyone. I get to mark down on a card whether I liked a candidate or not. If we agree to like each other we get each others contact info. So, have you tried speed dating? What questions should I ask the lucky ladies I will meet? What should I include in my mini speech about myself? Someone did point out that you have to have good memory or take notes on each person since you can meet 8-15 people in one night. Enlighten me!

Never done it, but I've heard it can be fun. Just be yourself, ask questions like what they'd like to do for an outdoor adventure, what foods they like, movies, etc.
Pay attention to how they inter-act with you - whether they're shy, if they look you in the eye, smile, easy to talk to, any body language.
Good Luck!

If you are anything like you are on facebook you should have no problem. You are always surrounded by women who look like they are enjoying your company. I say just be yourself.

Cell phone pics allowed? Might be one way to keep track. Only photograph the good ones.

take notes? name and a score of 1 - 5 (5 being best lady for follow up date) and use your cell for note taking but then again leave it up to chance cause by the end of meeting everyone and who ever is left on your mind should be the one to go out with. NAH! point list is better! because after 3, 4, 6 interviews they may all start to appear to be the same. using the notes and point system you will have a better chance of choosing someone that better peaked your interest. if girl 2 looks very promising, then girl 6 and 8, and ...well girl 2 may have been forgotten about. questions to ask: does she have more female friends or male friends. very important for you because you have (I think) more female friends. if your interview person has more female friends she may not like that you have a lot of female friends, which runs into her insecurity issues, and men and women can't be friends, and jealousy issues. what is the best part of a relationship she has been in. actually been involved in. stay away from the what is your ideal relationship! or that what do you look for in a guy bullshit. ask the best part of a past relationship. this can let you know what she actually likes. I could go on but I'll stop here - best wishes and hope you have some fun! Happy New Year spideRRB!! ;D

SL, I'm an outdoors person so I will ask your outdoor adventure question. Ken, that is correct. But they are just friends. Or they have friend zoned me! NewYearinHD, I like where you are going with that. I will either use a number system or a car system (from pinto to sports car, lol). Those are great questions too. I do have more female friends. Oped, yes, I will add my own twist to the questions as well. You know, to weed out a few. Fine, I will be myself! The spydah you all love and adore!

I want to know what happens too. I've never done speed dating. I've been invited to go to one of the functions, but didn't go. I want to hear about how (if at all) people are weeded out. I wonder if there is any kind of exclusion before you actually get there.

no screening and people just show up - the cost is $40 in my area. you have to sign up to I think a club that is hosting - pay $40 to attend the designated meeting restaurant - sticky name tag on the chest ;D

How did it go?? I'm WAAAAYYYY too shy to try it, but there are none in my area anyway (would rather find long-term possibilities closer than Portland, cuz if it worked out, one of us would have to move, and it would have to be him, no way in hell would I move to Portland!! ) I wish more guys were into the shy ones--we're only that way for a year or two (or 3-4), then we can be highly animated around you

A friend of mine was the one that talked me into going a few weeks ago. His experience sounded fun and since I'm tired of the bar / club scene I'm looking for new venues to meet women that will lead to a meaningful relationship, not just a hook up. And as I mentioned above all the girls I hang out with friend zoned me or vice versa. How it works: You register on the speed dating website. They're associated with a comedy club so it was $35 (I paid $29 because I got the desperate, I mean, early bird spechul price) and there was a comedy show afterwards. The comedy show is $20 on it's own, so I actually paid $9 for speed dating plus my $6 beers. Before we start: The event was scheduled for 7:30, my friend and I agreed to meet at 7:15 per my request to check out the merchandise before we got started. My friend texted me saying he was going to be there at 7:25 and to buy him a beer because he would not have the time as you have to check in and all that fun stuff. So I walk into the room double fisting it (it's not like I'm trying to put my best foot forward or anything, now these chicks think I'm an alcoholic). They gave me my name tag which had a number on it and a brochure (it was more like a piece of paper folded in half). Inside it it contained 15 names. That's right, I met 15 ladies! Next to their name was a 'yes' and a 'no' and then a line for you to take notes. I will mention that a few people showed up the day of the event and registered on the spot. Everyone else, like me, was pre-registered so our name tags were ready to go (not that they're fancy or anything). The number was the table you were in. I was table #2 in case you were wondering. You speak to one person for 5 minutes and then the men rotate to the next table over until you complete the full rotation. You get 20 seconds to take notes and for the guys to reach the next table, it's not super strict but if you take too long you're cutting into other people's valuable time. In this case, there were 13 guys so 2 different women were by themselves at all times. They actually liked that because you get a small 5 minute break to play with your phone or go to the bathroom or get a stronger drink! Think about it from my point of view: 15 women times 5 minutes each can be exhausting! We all know I only need 2 minutes though! I was just glad I had the stamina to make it through 15 consecutive women! Now I will post how it actually went so I'm breaking this down to a few posts. This is the good stuff! This is what you want to hear! I will remove my filter just for y'all! ;D

The number is the table, so I started out at table #2 so that's why she is listed here first
2. Emily: she was late, not that it matters because it took a while to register the people that were not pre-registered. While everyone was talking to their first victim I was just waiting for my friend and playing with my phone and pounding my beer. I finally handed him his beer when he arrived. He even talked to me for a while instead of going to his first date. We weren't in our 5 minute block yet so he was just killing time because he probably looked at her and didn't want to go there right away, if you know what I mean about her appearance. Okay, back to Emily. I talked to her for a while when she showed up and the 5 minutes began, so she timed it perfectly. She was a person with people skills even though she was a researcher, lol. She started off asking the questions but then we were taking turns. I asked her if she had pets and she said she had a dog and she said yes but it is at her mom's house. Her mom lives with grandma and the dog is helping them bond. You can interpret that how ever you want. She was a maybe on my list but since maybe is not an option I said no.
3. Sarah: She was a very intense girl but she was extremely fake too. Think alpha female. Example about her being fake: I told her I'm in the accounting field and she replies with the following enthusiastic reply "OMG! That's great! Good for you!" In my mind I was like STFU, no one thinks that about accountants! Believe me, I'm open minded and would not judge her like that, but her reply was so fake that she probably didn't believe it herself. She replied like that to almost anything I said. If I had more alcohol in me I would have said something random just to throw her off. Later on I discovered she was a lawyer. That was my ah ha moment. I hope Swamp doesn't read this as this does not represent all lawyers. :-p So at this point I have about 2 minutes left and I decided to break her down to see if she's human. Now you're wondering "well, spydah, how will you break her down while still trying to get a potential date with her?" Good question, let me explain. Spydah logic: We all love to talk about ourselves so it was a matter of asking the right questions to get her to let go of her alpha female role. It turns out she liked to hike. Well, what do you know, I like to hike! So I asked her about where she hikes and what she likes about those places, etc. A few seconds later she was more normal than when I had arrived. No, I was not interested in her even though she was cute in a four eye type of way. (her glasses made her look cute, don't get me wrong she was attractive but her personality turned me off)

4. Leanne: she was a teacher and very easy to talk to. I liked her the best! She had beautiful eyes and a nice rack. The conversation just flew and time ran out. I hope she like me too. She worked in the preschool in the ghetto and I liked that about how she talked about her career and how she liked the students. Boom, Spydah held back some drool on this one. I hope! As you will see, I was lucky that the girls I liked were towards the beginning!
5. Angela: Another teacher and another girl I liked. See the trend yet? She was very easy to talk to. I don't think we even asked each other more than 2 questions because we were just talking. She likes to volunteer and she's a local, which is rare for San Diego. Same thing, hopefully she found me adorable.
6. Desiree: She was the typical exotic Asian. Before I even sat down she held one hand up and said: "So what's your spiel?" It wasn't what she said, it was how she said it. Like come on buddy, let's get this over with. I made sure I didn't have my WTF look and I made a point to smile and answer the question. You guessed it, another alpha female. Surprise, surprise, she was a lawyer too! But this one was not fake. Enter spydah logic, let me break this chick down and bring her back to earth without insulting her. It turns out she likes to dance salsa and to volunteer. So we talked about that. She was cute, and I would not mind seeing her again. I like alpha females for some reason, specially when they're themselves.
7. Marcelina AKA Marcy was her American name: average looking and unemployed. Not going there.

8. Adrienne: I held back the Rocky joke. Let me be honest, she was extremely boring. Almost librarian status. But then she laughed! OMG, do you remember chuckie from the movie Child's Play? "Hi! I'm Chuckie! Wanna play? Ha Ha Ha!" No recall that chuckie laugh? Yeah, there you go. That's what I heard! I'm not sure if I held in the laughter after hearing her laugh. So at this point I determine she was more boring than attractive so I started to say thing to make her laugh. I wanted to hear that chuckie laugh again! Goal accomplished. She was such a bore that she was too stuck up for the comedy show. She and her friend left early, you should have seen the looks on their faces when the comedians said inappropriate things. She was a 'hell no!" Now, I have you thinking about Chuckie laugh and you're looking it up on YouTube. You're welcome! 9. Darcy: bubbly but not my type. Probably too young for me too. 10. Amy: Chuckie's friend, I mean Adrienne's friend. She was the girls that ranked 3rd on my list. She liked to hike too and was good to talk to. She was like Apple in the sense that it took her a while to come out of her shell. (a few minutes not a few years! ) 11. Lori: older and mature. Not what I'm looking for. 12. Angela #2: not attractive to me. She had no chance. 13. Rosa: She has potential, likes indoor soccer and was okay to talk to. 14. Jennifer: Let's just say "no wonder she's single" (can you tell the notes were getting shorter as the time went by). She was also ready to go home by this point. So we were both killing time. She has a kid and mentioned she has been in the education field for 20 years so you do the math on her age. 15. La Dawn: My favorite to talk to but I was not interested in her. I do have to mention that she was African American because of the song references I'm about to make. Let me explain why I was not interested: I asked her what she likes to do and in a conceded and super wasted voice she said: " I like to go oooooooout with myyyyyyyyyy friendddddds. and I Like to paaaaarty and go out and stuff. I like to gooooo clubbing and gettin' dressed up." So right there I knew she was not relationship material and she was super tanked. So now it's time to have some fun. I asked her what kind of music she likes and of course she mentions hip hop. Boom! I have her where I want her. So I told her I listening to Ludacris on the way to the event and her eyes lit up! She asked what songs so in the middle of this event I busted out quoting the song "move B get out the way" and she joined me. Then I started with the song Rollout and she joined me. It was quite the scene. I ended up calling her a shot caller because she had her own business. She was cute but I'm not into party girls no more. 1. Amanda: she was Emily's friend. they both showed up late but Emily was kind enough to throw Emily under the bus for being late. She was cute and good to talk to. I would rank her 4th on my list. So lot's of people (including myself) did this with a friend. I actually knew a 3rd dude that was there: Amanda and Emily as I just pointed out Sarah and Angela were friends Leanne and Lori, both teachers from the same school Angela#2, Rosa and Jennifer were friends. they were kind of odd so yeah odd people find each other So now I log in and click either yes or no for them. If it's a mutual yes we get each other's information and we take it from there. Okay, now I await your reaction and the reaction of the 4 ladies I liked. I might not reply until Sunday night though. I hope this was entertaining to read because it was a fun event to go to. A few of the girls that had done this before said this was a good turn out so I guess I got lucky. I believe I kept my 'spiel' fresh and energetic for each girl. I forgot to mention this was age rage specific from 25-39. I'm going it again next week. I want to get laid on V day and beyond! :-p

Step out your door...51% of the population is female, try to get to know one for longer than five minutes. But that's just me.

Well, just because you may not take part in this "nonsense", Robert - doesnt' mean it isn't fun (or helpful) for someone else as another option for meeting new people.

Spydah, I got dizzy reading this. Glad you had fun. It was easy for me to find my wife. Sophomore year of college, a good female friend of mine, who was supposed to be watching out for me for her friend who I went out with our freshman year, introduced me to her freshman "little sister" ( a program to mentor new students) . History was made.

This "nonsense" was fun. Everyone these is looking and invested time and money to do that. If I go out they might be taken, or not looking, etc.
Ken, I've been doing other things like volunteering at events. I found a group that does that sort of things I'm just trying to become a regular and see what happens.
