I love the way the ocean smells in a cool fog, just intensified. it's been like that this week when I got home from work. can you share a favorite recipe for something that will keep and reheat well with us? I'm in a rut and looking for new ideas for stuff to bring to work for dinners. thanks in advance

a can of your favorite chili in a casserole. Drain a can of corn, and add it. Drain, rinse, and drain again a can of pinto beans. Add, and stir. Top with cheese. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until cheese is melted. Eat with tortilla chips or corn bread. Reheats well.
Have you whittled down your holiday list so you can spend time enjoying the celebrations with friends and family?

No, I haven't whittled the holiday list but I have begun the shopping.
Is this a three-day weekend for you?

yes of course it's an extended Holiday weekend off from work! I plan to be sleeping through most of it! Question: do you start your day at the same time everyday including days off from working?

No, I sleep in a bit on the weekends. On workdays it's 6:00 a.m. and on non-workdays and work-at-home days the most I can get my dog to let me sleep is 7:00 a.m.
How much do you spend on average for groceries, and what's your biggest grocery store splurge?

Usually $300 a month for food, HBAs, and paper and cleaning products. Biggest splurge is ribeye, lobster tail and crab legs. The latter about twice a year.
Do you use coupons, whether they are paper or electronic?

Sometimes. I play the Safeway Monopoly game, and I use those coupons all the time. And I sometimes search for coupons if I'm ordering something online from a vendor I don't use all the time already. But for the most part, I don't go looking for coupons. It is all much easier now that CostCo has made it so you don't have to bring in their coupons. It is all just automatic at the register.
I cooked on Sunday. For really the first time ever, I found a base recipe and then modified it for what I wanted, taste profile wise. And it turned out good. (Southwestern Chicken Corn Chowder - I put it in the recipe thread.) I am very proud of myself. Do you cook from recipes or make your own variations?

If it is a new dish I start with recipe then veer off which usually results in the smoke detector going off. Have you ever gone sky diving?

Nope. Nor have I bungee jumped. Despite the fact I am a speed/adrenaline junkie, I've never had a desire to do either.
Have you ever jumped into a pile of leaves?

not in easily 30 years, but yes, I have. skydiving was fantastic, btw. this from someone who is terrified of heights, too. what's your favorite thing about fall? food, weather, anything. ETA: I'll answer the question that was posted at the same time - no, I don't like yard work, period.

brand new as in brand new matching the same current year. never! My dad would get a new vehicle on lease. but because of the problems he had with new vehicles. I never wanted to get a new vehicle and only purchased the lease returns! LOL after the lease returns of 3 years is up. Q- Do you live close within the same city to any family; parents, siblings, or cousins?

Medium sized?? My dad has 3 siblings, resulting in um....5 cousins and their spouses which has added 11 second cousins with another one on the way in Jan. Dad has numerous cousins as well, which would also be my second cousins the other direction. They are all many states away, and my sister and I like it that way. It's a lot to take in when you're not used to that much "activity". On the flip side, mom's family is small. Do you have favorite family member(s)?

We don't get any Trick or Treaters. (I miss that. Always loved seeing little ones come to the door) I don't even decorate any more. So, the budget has decreased to purchase. I still get a bag of something though. So, what do you do with your leftover Halloween Candy?

I don't have any trick or treaters so no need to buy candy. However, just for me, I bought a 70 pc. assorted package this week and it should last me at least 90 days.
How many rings do you wear at one time?

Not sure? I do know there is such a thing as a man purse.... When I ask DH to move mine from point a to point b, he carries it as though it might explode into a stinky bag of dirty baby diapers at any time. And it's a cool black (his favorite color) leather Nine West bag! With the understanding that this is SS, I'll ask this anyway: Do you buy name brand items? I did see a few designer handbags at the second hand store last week....

Depends on what it is. Most clothing and stuff, meh. Food I may be a little pickier about but not a lot of it. I usually buy generics for groceries. I am not a connoisseur of brand name purses or what not. I personally think Gucci, D&B and whatever the other ugly ones are, are rather ugly. I forget who it is my SIL and niece are big fans of but they some ugly ass pieces. And Michael Kors. Hell, I just picked up a messenger bag at Barnes & Noble because I need a new purse and haven't found anything else I really liked. This is PERFECT!! Now I just need to go buy some skull patches to iron/sew on and I'll be all set. I'm thinking of a question. I am having a brain cramp right now.

I buy brand name shoes for dress/work shoes - generally Dansko or Clarks. It is what comes from having larger than average feet (women's 11-12, depending on width), walking on the "insides" of my feet, so cheap shoes last <6months, and now plantar fasciitis. I spend more on a single pair of those shoes, but the shoes last so much longer than cheap shoes (and don't add to my foot pain), so totally worth it. Plus, they make shoes in my size, which is really my number one requirement.
Do you buy clothes from places like Sam's Club or CostCo?

I don't. Sometimes I do skim over the selections, and some look really comfortable. I guess it's because I'm at Sam's to buy food and supplies, not clothing, so I don't really think about it.
How often do you end up replacing things such as shoes, purses, sweaters, etc?

Since I retired I don't replace stuff nearly as much unless you count replacing work clothes with jeans and t-shirts
We've all see those "mistakes made in such and such a movie sites" Have you even caught a mistake in movie/tv show?

not so much a clear mistake, but I have a hard time watching anything set in Boston where things are just not right. I don't mean the accent, I mean areas of town, etc.
Have you had to turn on the heat yet this year?

Funny you should ask, Chive. DH turned it on for the first time Monday morning, and I didn't even notice, LOL. Instead of 62 in our BR, it was 65.... It's my first experience with in floor radiant heat. This should be interesting.
Gloves or mittens?

depends how cold it is and what I'm doing. there's always a pair of those little stretchy knit kid gloves in my jacket and coat pockets. I have warmer gloves for things like shoveling. but if I'm going skiing, it has to be goretex mittens or my fingers turn purple.
does your area typical experience Indian summer? that's a warm spell after the first frost of the season.

No, because there is no frost here. But, we did have cooler weather about a week ago and it's warmed up since, and is scheduled to be low to mid 90s this weekend and early next week.
What is your favorite holiday? I'm not much of a Halloween person, but I do love Thanksgiving and Christmas.
