wooo hooo on all the progress here! I of course did nothing but watch the West Wing last night and checked that off my list... tonight I'm presenting to a group over in Sacramento so I actually need to get out of the house soon! It's going to be a late night and no decluttering time at home.

I've kept going! I had half a drawer full of "precious things" in the kitchen buffet. I'm a total sucker for any rock or shell or marble my kids gave me as a "present" when they were little.
I consolidated three small jewelry bags and a small basket full of that "stuff" into just the small basket! (I actually threw out the shells and rocks, and then dug them back out of the garbage, yes, I am certifiable lol.) I also found a VERY old phone and pair of glasses which I've added to the "Salvation Army" pile.

Sold two more items today. So my total is 8. Plus making some extra money to pay off my debts that are on my debt payoff list this year.

Hi Everyone! You all are being very busy and motivating for me. On both Monday and Tuesday nights I had board meetings (I'm a VP & Chair) so I'm completely meetinged out. UGH. I had wanted to get some items from my list knocked off but by the time I got home both nights it was already past my bedtime. So, tonight... I'd like to... Put away old load of laundryDo at least one load, two would be a huge bonus Figure out why the phone keeps beeping - I don't know why, the batt says it's fine so I switched it with a different base set. Recharge KindleUpdate Savers threadPut away today's mail/paperwork Snuggle up on the couch with DH, a movie, and an adult hot cocoa. (Baileys? Kahlua? Both?)

1. Organize closet in nursery. 2. Clean bathroom 3. Dust 4. Put away laundry 5. Return stuff to Kohls to get it out of my house
6. Deal with baby shower thank you cards (ie likely recycle them) 7. Organize coupons
8. Put away Christmas stuff (sadface) 9. Put stuff in attic (DH has to do this) 10. Health insurance claims 11. Finally deal with filing 12. Pantry inventory (this is more long-term)
13. Meal plan for next week 14. Reorganize top shelf of glasses cabinet 15. Put up paintings in our room
Did some meal planning today, and also got all the Christmas stuff up into the attic crawl space, along with two crates of summer clothes that have been sitting in our room ready to go for months now. Found a blanket and a Christmas decoration in the attic that we are going to donate. Progress!

Yikes, I don't know why I'm still up. I was so tired when I got home tonight. Was going to just take a day off from cleaning, but I hadn't finished my list from yesterday. I did: find my under-bed storage bag, and put away both the 1st blanket I'd washed and tonight put away the 2nd. Kitchen sink got done. Got rid of all the ants last night, and sprayed this morning before work -- there were only half a dozen when I got home this evening. Better, but still ugh. Last night I did NOT deal with the paper build-up in the living room. I spent an hour and half doing that this evening, before finally getting dinner at 9:30. All I can say is Thank you, thank you, thank you. If not for wanting to come on here and report to you all that I'd cleaned up all that paper, it would still be sitting there for another week or more.
K to debthaven -- don't you love getting on a roll? Impressive, all you've accomplished today! K to Ombud and Saving tomorrow -- I can't stay awake another 51 minutes to get you two, but Ombud, you're dealing with so much and getting so much accomplished. And Saving, you knocked quite a bit off your list even with the week you've had. Hope you went with both Baileys and Kahlua! I have a feeling I'm going to need some of both by the time this week is over.

1. Exchange smoke detector 2. Install smoke detector 3. Do laundry (3 loads) 4. Clean bathroom
5. Clean off top of desk 6. Clean out file drawers of last years bills (to be shredded)
Still hoping to get some more laundry done tonight (on load 2). We will see what happens!

Today was rough!! I worked 8+ hours on client stuff, taught a 3 hour class, and took care of the girls all afternoon. I did manage to get the dishes done (my daily chore today) so at least that happened. I also got the FSA form submitted so we should be getting back all $1200 that we had withheld for last year next week!! I'm so excited about that because we are BROKE at the moment and that will really help me not be so nervous.

Okay, the old hats know this about me but for the new folks out there: I am crazy. Like really, really odd.
With that in mind here's my dilemma. I intended to empty my guest room in January (queen bed, 3 bookshelves, file cabinet, quilt hanging on the wall) and lie down plastic and scrape and paint the ceiling. I've done this before in the master bedroom, hallway and most recently the office.
I wanted to do this in January and then my mom came up last weekend, both parents were going to come next weekend. BUT now they're pushing it back by a week. Which would mean I can either do the whole project in the next 9 days or after Jan 21st.
Which would you do?
Granted I still need to finish painting the bathroom cabinets and putting in vinyl and decluttering and my list is NOT short already...
Any advice besides "you're crazy"?
ETA: for reference, I did this in November in my office with 7 bookshelves, a desk and a couch in about a week while writing a novel and running a business... Granted, the guest room doesn't get as much use as the office but who knows, maybe I'm just not thinking this through.

Last night I folded 2 baskets of 'old' laundry. Did more laundry. Towels went into the washer this morning so tonight I can try to focus on blankets and pillows. Joy. I had no idea my living room was as dirty as it is/was. I worked on the Christmas stuff and re-arranged. Every time I moved something a pile of dirt/crumbs jumped out. So I swept the floor about a thousand times it seemed. I do not like the way the room is re-arranged though. I'm gonna have to think about it and shove furniture around some more. So, what do you do with kid art? My kids are 3 and 4.5. They bring home stuff from school/dcp and they color at home. And I'm not sure that I want to keep it but I also don't know that I want to take pictures and download to memory. A lot of this is handouts given by their teachers. It doesn't feel like it needs to be saved but it also doesn't feel right to just toss it. Any thoughts? And debt, I too have a collection of rocks from my kids. Vegetation gets tossed once it dies. But you never know when you'll need a rock, right?

I am getting a bunch of packages ready to ship. It will get that stuff out of the apartment. I am on vacation again next week. The weather for the first 3 days is supposed to be raw. So, I"ll stay inside and declutter some more. I hope to have made huge progress by the end of the week.

Go to post office
1 load of laundry
take out trash Spend at least 30 minutes on business record keeping (I have info I have to get together so that I can fill out an Indiana tax form that is due at the end of this month).
It wasn't on the original list, but I did wrap 5 pieces of jewelry to take to the post office today. (Will go to the PO at lunch). I also had about a handful of stuff on top of the master bedroom dresser that didn't belong there - I put it all away
I was tired and decided going to bed early was a better idea then staying up and trying to work on the record keeping.
For tonight - I have to fold the laundry that I washed and dryed yesterday and do one more load of laundry. I also want to do that 30 minutes of recordkeeping and add at least 5 items to my Ebay store.
Constanz - I might be surprised, but I don't think I've got 2013 things to get rid of, but I'm going to keep track anyway. I may have gotten rid of something else earlier this month, but if so I can't recall. So I am at 2/2013 for the two eyeshadows that I threw out yesterday.
Spartan, I use a master list at work, but it's never more than a page and a half long - it's usually less than 1 page long. I'm really afraid of how long the home list would be - but I might give it a try. Maybe I'll end up with more than one list - Like a recurring goals list (1 load of laundry per day, vaccuum once a week, etc.) and a seperate one for projects.

Yesterday's List: Get out cash for DS' trip Help DS finish packing Pick up travel tooth paste for DS Weed out library bookshelves Cancel cable (switched to Roku and love it) Load items in DH's truck for him to bring to goodwill tomorrow. Finished them all DH has vowed to bring the items to Goodwill today. He also promised to get me a count on items. ;D On big garbage bag is all shoes that DS has outgrown. Seriously we are on the third shoe size so far this school year. Found 12 books from our library that I can easily part with. DH listed 3 more DVD sets on eBay along with one of my purses that still had the tags on 2 years later. Today: Mail out DVD set that paid last night do a load of laundry (preferably 2) organize library closet Bring up the last load of books from basement to library Buy paint for the family room. Beth- I've seen where some people will scan in the kids art work and get a shutterfly book done for each year. That may be an option. I remember when DS was that age- it's a huge amount of paper they bring home from daycare and preschool that's for darn sure. I also saw on pinterest where they huge a couple of hinged frames and would replace the art work regularly (but there was room in the frame to store several pages of art). Startsmart- if it were me I'd bust it out now before the parents come but that's just me.

I try to make a list of at least 8 to 10 items. The most important ones at the top. If I can do at least half on the list, it has been a super successful day. The next day, start over with a new list. Some days, I pick the things that didn't get done the day before, and that is my total list for the day. Seeing them in black and white helps me feel like I've accomplished things. Today my list is pack boxes for shipping to AnySoldier.com peeps I've adopted. Pack presents to ship off. Make two phone calls (blech), and do a little more decluttering, and some house work. The most important thing on the list is take a nap.

I think I'm going to separate into 2 bins, then go though DD's stuff with her. If she wants to keep it, we will. If she doesn't, we won't. And I'll talk to DH too. We can't keep it all, the house will be awash in paper.

Thanks Jen! I'm very impressed at your progress, you are tackling this head on!
K to Moos and I'm Mooving down the list.
Against all odds, DH went through three boxes today (I helped). He wanted to keep most of the contents, but we did burn a bunch (bank statements from 1984!!!) It looks like a pee in the ocean, but I'll take what I can get.

LOL at the vegetation Beth! I bought folders with plastic sleeves, and put their art in there. I probably have too much of it, but at least it's organized LOL.
Start, wish I could give you advice!

Beth I put mine in three ring binder with protector sheets. I do not keep all and I am sure I will get rid of some at some point but form now the last two years worth of dcp art projects are in one binder.

I guess part of it is that I don't consider these art or art projects. In DD's case, it's a handout with the letter of the day on it and a couple of pictures of things that start with that letter. She colors them in, hands them in and then brings them home. It's at least 1 handout a day. We don't have all of them, some got tossed due to being torn, dirty or never brought into the house. Plus art on top of that. She's in 4K at a German Immersion school, if that makes a difference.

Beth, you should get a few pictures of the kids gifting you with twigs, rocks, etc. It would be fun to show it to them years from now.

We went for a walk last fall and I had a handful of sticks by the end of it. One of the neighbors saw us and told me Cabe could come and 'play' in his yard more if he was going to pick up the sticks. lol. He's got a tree that sheds a lot of sticks and twigs.

Haha, Beth, that reminds me of a story with my sister's step kids. They had trees that dropped sticks like crazy too. Sis needed to mow, so she told her step daughters they could get $.01 for each stick they picked up. She had to pay out $20!!! But she said they got EVERY little piece of stick/twig off the lawn. LOL.

Beth - I wouldn't keep handouts like that, probably, just art projects.
Wasn't on my list, but just dumped 16 bottles of beer (so sad!) that have been sitting in a cooler in the corner of our dining room since our 4th of July party. How pathetic is that? Now to find a place for the cooler in the shed... so glad it's out of the dining room, finally!
