This is a good local story about something that can be implemented right now that will help us balance our energy needs. Bruce I know you were talking about something similar, if not exactly like this a while ago. SaskEnergy warms to heat recovery: www.thestarphoenix.com/SaskEnergy+warms+heat+recovery/4227385/story.html The cool thing is that the 800 homes that it will provide electricity for is roughly the number of home in Rosetown.

Dissipating excess heat has been an engineering challenge ever since the internal combustion engine was conceived. Liquid-cooling systems are the norm for anything bigger than a lawn mower, with a few notable exceptions like my old air-cooled Volkswagen "pancake four" and Sangria's three cylinder air-cooled Gong Fau. Capturing the waste heat and putting it to good use is the next engineering challenge. Perhaps mini-turbines running off the engine coolant system in a big rig could generate electricity to power the refrigeration units on the reefer trailer it's pulling. Who knows. Crude attempts have been made by amateur inventors working in primitive facilities in their basements and garages. In this example, freeway commuters stuck in hours-long traffic jams would have a ready supply of nutritious food and an on-board source of tin foil, useful for fashioning headgear should the need arise: www.ehow.com/how_4599681_cook-food-car-engine.htmlLet's hope GE and GM can collaborate to come up with a more mainstream application. There's money to be made, and efficient use of energy is obviously good. It'd be a win/win/win for producers, consumers, and the environment.

That's the truth. I'm excited that SaskEnergy is going forward and Saskatchewan is sticking to its pioneering roots. Speaking of backyard tech. I watch a NOVA special today about clean energy. Check this out!! www.killacycle.com/about/
