Conservatives take great pride in knowing that rights mean rights to action, not rights to goods and services that must be provided by slaves of the State. Nonetheless, conservatives maintain that Americans have a right to defense, i.e., a right to goods and services provided by unwilling taxpayers (otherwise known as slaves of the State).
Yes, conservatives are socialists too.

I can see bringing over informative threads from the MSN boards, but why on Gods green earth did you waste your time with this one? 1. To recall the Thoughts of former posters who I vividly remember. I need to find one thread representing SOTH, too. 2. To show how the mood of the country has changed.

Only because I am not a libertarian and reject many of your parties tenants as does most of the country. And in that sense I stand by my initial response to your slanted OP that tries to depict conservatives as socialists. In reality you could have inserted any political affiliation into your OP and come to the same conclusion, for most libertarians probably think that America as it exists today is indeed a socialist country.
Quoted Text
We, the members of the Libertarian Party, challenge the cult of the omnipotent state and defend the rights of the individual.
We hold that all individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose.
Governments throughout history have regularly operated on the opposite principle, that the State has the right to dispose of the lives of individuals and the fruits of their labor. Even within the United States, all political parties other than our own grant to government the right to regulate the lives of individuals and seize the fruits of their labor without their consent.

Did we run out of current news or something? I've been following NewLib for years. This guy's thoughts are so much more in harmony now than they ever were.

Oddly I took the "test" a while back & it rated me as a libertarian rather than conservative. Maybe I am. I sure agree with the above statement.

I think one of the most socialist states in the country is known as a conservative state. Not only does Alaska dip at the federal trough more than other states, they [tea party darling Palin] put a tax on oil companies based on the price of oil and the money is redistributed to the people in the form of an annual check. In essence a windfall tax redistribution ,or share the wealth as the governor called it.

Socialism is an economic philosophy, not a party. Socialists exist in many parties, in fact most Americans are to some extent socialist. Democrats can be capitalists, but are rarely capitilists that become democrats, just democrats that become successful in competition. My Christmas wish is for everybody to openly explore their own beliefs and claim to be the party and economic philosophy that they actually believe. I get tired of people claiming not to be socialist, because it has a negative connotation. There is nothing wrong with socialism as a belief, so just admit to it and be done (99% of our elected officials). I wish that republican minded people would quit being democrat because they were born that way, and vice versa.
