I don't like getting gifts. Does that make me weird?
ETA: It's not that I don't like it, it makes me uncomfortable. I appreciate the sentiment, but it kinda freaks me out.

I think it can get awkward when people are watching you to gauge your reaction to the present.

I think it can get awkward when people are watching you to gauge your reaction to the present. I remember a few years ago when my MIL and her sister were talking about scrapbooking to me. I told them that it really wasn't my thing. So of course they got me a HUGE scrapbooking kit for one of my birthdays. It was really hard to pretend to like it, especially since I already told them I wasn't interested.

I think it can get awkward when people are watching you to gauge your reaction to the present. Even when I get something I like or really wanted, I'm not the jumping up and down squealing type. You're not gonna get that and most people are disappointed when I don't do that. So, then I feel like I have to fake it to make them happy and I'm pretty sure I don't do that well either so I feel like they think I hate it anyway. I've given up the faking it for the most part, but any big reaction feels forced for me.

MIL has a habit of wrapping gifts in other product's boxes - so I open them up and go, "Yeah, a Kitchenaid blender! Oh wait, pajamas."

I like the video that was on America"s Funniest Home Videos of the 2 girls getting bicycles. The older girl looks happy. But, the younger one is clearly disappointed. She wails: a bicycle! But, I wanted LIPSTICK!

I don't wear it and I don't want it and I can't tell you how many times I've told him. He says he gets it this year and isn't buying me any. We'll see.

Yeah, I am not much into receiving gifts either. I don't mind getting gifts from parents or people extremely close to me quite as much but gifts from co-workers, SIL, etc. make me uncomfortable.

I got my first ever boss gift from Person Who Shant Be Named. Yes, he gave the other bosses gifts, too. And it was definitely a boss gift.

Boss/co worker gifts are the worst, either direction. I usually like what I get but figuring out what to get them sucks.

The best gift anyone could give -> alcohol and/or sex! I'm not sharing my drunken monkey sex with Thyme, either. although my husband would probably think it's a fantastic idea.

Would this gift make you uncomfortable? Too bad they are sold out - because I find mine quite handy.

A pink ribbon would probably freak me out, like you're giving me breast cancer or something. ETA: NOw I see them. No, it wouldn't make uncomfortable. it would make me very happy!

It is a bit awkward when someone gifts you something and you can tell they're looking for a big reaction, and then you feel obligated to give it to them even though (like you) I'm not the type of jump around laughing and giggling about how happy I am to receive whatever gift comes my way. A couple of years ago, my parents made a big deal about one gift they were going to give me. Set up the camera and zoomed in and everything to look at my reaction. What was the gift? A calendar they picked up in Tahiti with topless women in it. I really didn't care because I didn't really use calendars and had little interest in gawking at pictures of topless women.

He probably thinks you're playing some strange female mind game with him. Like when a woman says she doesn't want something she really does.

With all that build up on the gift, Phoenix, my reaction would've been priceless alright. More like, THIS is what you were all excited about? Maybe, but after years of getting me something off and on and me never wearing it, you'd think he'd figure it out. I'm just not a jewelry girl. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this year.

My mother is a compulsive shopper and hoarder. So, of course, I hate clutter and am a minimalist.
She is a wonderful woman, but has always bought me age inappropriate gifts that are not suitable to my personality.....Most recently, she gave me fish net stockings and hello kitty flannel pajama bottoms. We have agreed not to exchange Christmas gifts, but she can't help herself...I wonder what she will come up with?
