A cursory look around the 'net and the consensus is they are good for a year.

I think if the pharmacy had a problem with it, they would just call the doctor when you tried to fill it.
I always put mine on file with the pharmacy but ask them not to fill it yet. I'm on maintenance drugs, and I get a year's worth of refills whenever I happen to go to the yearly visit.

A year for most. Some are only good for 6 months (like nitroglycerin and some narcartics).

Controlled substances are good for 6 months. I don't know the hard-and-fast rule, but I know I've filled an rx up to a year after it was written (either had it put on hold or just kept a hold of the rx the whole time) and then the year-refill clock started when I filled it, not the date the rx was written. So, it would seem you have at least a year to originally fill it, and then the refill clock starts then. Best to double check with your pharmacist though, I haven't gone that long filling the original in a while so things might have changed.

Depends. I've received some pain prescriptions from the dentist that elite in two weeks.
