I don't know...... When I hear that someone in trouble, my first inclination is to help. But!!! I can't do it without strings attached. When my stupid, no-good SIL and BIL didn't have a car, I foolishly let them borrow mine, but I was pissed beyond belief when 1) I didn't get a proper "thank you" and 2) I saw them buying stupid shit instead of saving and buying their own car. I try to do the right thing all the time, but sometimes when no one is watching, I take an easy way out. And I don't wish EVERYONE only good things. If I don't like someone, I might not necessarily wish them bad, but I don't wish them good either. So, I don't know.... You are still nicer than me...I wouldn't have loaned my car to the deadbeats. I'd be afraid they would get into an accident and I would be on the hook

I am nicer than any of you. I rescue worms then take them swimming and fishing after carefully attaching a line to them so they don't get lost.
I am pretty nice but not very charitable, I work and don't see why most people don't work hard enough to make a living. People who can't work seem to be already taken care of with my tax dollars with section 8, food stamps and SSI so I am not inclined to help more unless I know them.

nope, spiders are squished on sight. especially the creepy green ones. I guess I'm not a good person after all. Spiders are possibly reincarnated souls. Chiver's just helping the little nasties on to the next, hopefully better, incarnation. Yup. ;D

Nope. And I mean that pretty seriously. I was a horrible wife in my first marriage. I refuse to get along with my mother --though I'm not sure it's possible even if I tried. I, like swamp, cannot stand stupid people. (I don't mean those who are truly mentally disabled.) I'm not always nice to my kids, but that's because I don't believe I'm supposed to be their friends. I've had more than a few one-toe-over-the-line not nice mommy moments though, and for those I'm truly ashamed. I'm not good at giving to charity because I'm not good at parting with my money. I'm much better of a person now in my 30s than I was in my 20s. Are we the same person? I DO try to be nice to others and treat them the way I want to be treated BUT I do have a very hot temper and I can be a major bitch if you piss me off. My husband says I can make a grown man cry with my words when I am that angry. I have mellowed out since I hit my 30's. Now I usually just cut people out of my life if they "F" me over instead of being vindictive. I have no problem not associating with those I find toxic and bring the ugly out of me....even if they are family.

Yes I'm a genuinely "nice", "sickeningly sweet", "caring", "thoughtful", etc person. I try to help when I can, I give to a select few charities (both are children's charities--Doernbechers Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House). Animals adore me, even the mean ones (although they almost all like my son even more--it's like he's a magnet for them). It's annoying and tiring and sucks sometimes, but it's just who I am. I've *had* to be mean a few times, and, while I can do it, it makes me feel horrible. ETA: I have gotten better at calling people out though, but I'm still much nicer about how I do it than I'd like to be. I counter the niceness with snarkiness and sarcasm so I guess I have a salty exterior with a gooey nice core.

well, since so many people would consider me a bad wife and bad mother, the answer seems to be "no".

Suppose it depends on who you are talking to. To a few students I am probably the meanest bitch on the planet, but I take my job seriously and I am the one that has to clean up their messes, so I rode them hard and I am not sorry for it. It depends on what mood my brother is in when you ask if him if I am a good sister or a bad sister. Some days I am a bad person just because I was born first. Not much I can do about that, can't crawl back up and have a do over. Then there are probably some ex friends who think I am a bitch. It also depends on what you mean by a good person. I am a very blunt honest person, I don't tell peopel what they think they want to hear so a lot of times I get labeled "mean" because I don't pander. To the people that count like my parents, DH, my daughter, my best friend I am a good person.

MJ - I've seen that posting before, and it really plays into the stereotypical perfect SAHM ideal.
Maybe you didn't bake cookies and make home-made soaps, but I know you did more than take a shower - because you work. I don't equate going to work and earning a paycheck akin to "nothing." Don't underestimate what you do. Crafts are cute, but they don't really matter.

one of my Facebook friends is about to get a virtual punch to the ovaries. She's always posting judgmental parenting drivel. I am debating whether or not to unfriend her without giving her the "unfriend kiss off" rant beforehand. wow, I am REALLY not a good person!

Man if we're measuring good motherhood by treat making, then I am complete failure. I suck at baking. That's what the bakery section of the grocery store is for.

I would just hide her from your news feed.
Or, punch her in the ovaries.
Both viable options.

When I have FB "friends" that annoy the shit out of me, I counter their annoying posts with equally annoying posts....of course, then I have friends wanting to punch ME in the ovaries
