Happy New Year everyone! I had my laptop and Kindle stolen from me towards the end of last year, so my savings is currently on hold.
I'm not entirely sure what my goals will be for 2013, but I'll let you all know once I figure it out!
Happy saving!!

Sorry it took me so long to reply about YNAB. I broke my laptop and just got it back! It took me about 6 months to get to the point where we were using this month's income for next month, but we started with a small cushion in our checking account, so we didn't have to make it to 100%
Prior to YNAB I did everything for my budget in excel. I also use quicken, but I do not like their budgeting tool. YNAB allows me to plan ahead and it is easier for me to track everything with less mistakes. I have 2 checking accounts and one is our main account and the other we use for common expenses. I have that one broken into several categories: groceries, cash, auto repairs, vacations, kids stuff, gifts. I have that account broken into sub accounts in YNAB that are off budget, but the transfer from my main account to that account is from my account that is on budget. I can then see what we have earmarked for each of these categories so we are not overspending (if we can help it). I am sorry if this is confusing, I am probably not explaining it well... But, we start with a base budget and copy it forward each month. Then when I enter our paychecks as income available next month I can see what we need to do to budget out to zero. Then we make adjustments until the budget balances and that is what we follow. So, next week when we get our 2nd set of paychecks for January DH and I will finalize our budget plan for February. We include all spending and saving and we know exactly what our bottom line is since the money is money that we already have in the bank.
Now, I only was on page 2, so I will go read everything else!

Just finished my taxes using turbotax and they have a multiple account option for your refund deposit. Automatically set up a deposit to my house account without never seeing or touching it. Remaining balance will pay off a personal loan I took from my job last year which will increase my take home pay by $50 a week which would be an additional $200 a month. I plan to pay an addtional $100 to my student loans starting March 1st and the other $100 will be going half to my emergency fund and the other to have as padding in my checking. Does this sound like a good idea?
twinmama85- that is so great for you! I love windfalls they give me a warm fuzzy feeling

Here is my very small addition for January. Medical will come next, with about half of it next month. DH and I decided that we would try to start saving some of our weekly spending cash towards the family vacation, so hopefully we will be making small gains throughout the year in that area. We want to try to go to Disney in a couple of years, so we are hoping to slowly work our way towards that goal.

Yes! This windfall puts me 2 months ahead and to top it off, my cell phone bill is only $40 instead of $85 because they prorated me my bill from last month (lowered my mins) Lots of little windfalls this month, so thankful to God.

Hi all. It does the heart good to read about all of you making good progress toward your goals in the midst of "Life." My savings for this month has been right on target as well. I had been putting money aside for a trip to TN to visit my son. Had $800 in there since the beginning of January. Last night a water pipe broke and today $430 less money in the TN account. BUT!!! The pipe was fixed in 3 hours and I had the $$$$ to pay cash for it. So, the savings made the situation easier. I'll have another paycheck to budget money for the trip. Here's my updates: Fund | Goals | 2012 Head Start | This Month | % Met |
| Money Market Fund | $4140 | $2700 | $120 | 68%
|
| Emergency Fund
| $480 | $0 | $40 | 8%
|
|
P.S. I changed the names of my savings funds. I've been trying the YNAB "free trial for 34 days" and like it a lot so far. I have 16 more free days, then either buy the program and keep all the budget work I've done, or loss it. It doesn't financially keep everything in one place, but it does budgets really well for someone like me needs a different/healthier way of thinking about money. I've taken 7 for their free webinars, watched their recorded videos, and read the forums. (Hmmm, I think I'm repeating myself. Sorry ) Anyway, I'm figuring out how my previous thinking about money was catty-wanker and am straightening it out. As evident in my above water issues. Until next time...

A quick hello. I've been a new dog mom for 21 hours and have gotten maybe 2 hours of sleep. Ugg. I feel like calling my mom and apologizing for taking 18 months to be pottie trained. I have a whole new respect for real moms of real human babies. As you might be able to imagine, I can't quite face trying to figure out how to make a new pretty table. Waaaay to much thinking. Best wishes to everyone!

Does change scare anyone else? ? I see our tables don't look quite the same anymore. And I'm missing lots of smilies for the savings milestones. Hmmmm. <placing head between knees> I don't think I feel so good... They are still there, just click on the emoticon and click on view all smiles, they are there. YEAH!!!! ::party:: They only had the little ones on the 14th. So glad our selection is back!!

Doing the 52 week money challenge. I printed out the numbers 1 - 52 on a piece of paper and will cross off whatever week/s I choose. Money and number sheet will go together in an envelope.

BackinControl: If you go to mint.com there is a calculation page that has each week, the $$ amount for that week and the running balance. I think someone posted it here on this thread earlier as well. I am doing the challenge in reverse so I have that page printed out and marked for each bi-weekly pay. Seeing the actual numbers each week is motivating for me. OK, paws crossed that this table works. Hissss! Hissss! pffft! pfffftt! Grrrrr.... Ok - I've tried about 10 times. I have a perfectly good table on WIRR Racers - Midwest but I can't get it to work here. I don't know what the difference is but I even tried copying that one...because I know it works....and starting over. Tomorrow is another day!

HappyCat: 1/16/13 $350.00 (1/03/13 $150.00) REVERSE WEEKLY CHALLENGE: On Target Week 3 FINALLY!! Evidently something went haywire when I added the line for the Weekly challenge. I deleted that, copied lines that I posted correctly on the Racers board, updated the info and...and voila!!! It's weird because the lines in my table with the error look EXACTLY the same as this one.

TM85 - kudos on your 1st rose!
TM30 - great plan! Even though you have debt, you still need a cushion to avoid MORE debt
Lucy - I was soooooo frustrated trying to get a table. Never did figure out why it wouldn't take. I was hoping to do what you did - cut&paste - do you know why your initial attempts failed? Is there coding I should be aware of? I only learned html and its changed since 2004

Now that I am on board - I am always anxious for my next paycheck so I can up my numbers. Not that I want time to go by that fast but I guess it is at least something to look forward to.

I REALLY like the look of the lines in the table, like Lucy and Mak have, but I think I'll save myself the headache and just go with this for a while. If I decide that I just absotively, posolutely have to have lines I can tackle that beast later.
Dog was sleepy last night. Whew!

I REALLY like the look of the lines in the table, like Lucy and Mak have, I decided to create my table in excel and just "copy & paste." It'll do the calculations for me AND the lines. I tried it on WIRR and it worked. I'll try it here for next month's tally.

Lucy - I'm going to PM you my email address. I'm not sure I have time to tackle creating a table here. I won't have an update for a while, but at least I'll have it when I need it.
And I wanted to add that I had Lasik about 10 years ago. BEST money every spent. I'm 41 and still don't need glasses for anything and I love not having to wear glasses or contacts.

Does anyone know why some of my smileys actually make a round yellow face and others just look like colons and parentheses? I've also realized that you can't edit a post to put a smiley in the middle of it anymore. Even if I click in the middle of the body it appends the smiley to the very end of the post where I have to cut and paste it where it belongs. What a pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I make so many smiley changes each week something even as easy as you describe will still be a PITA to do 30-50 times. (Just ignore me being whiny for a while. I'll eventually get over it.)
