That's because I didn't realize flooring is so expensive. Plus, since we have to replace the flooring (carpets are now almost 30 yrs. old), we decided to start from the top down. Currently scaping the popcorn ceiling. Finished the downstairs and working upstairs now. Then we have to get someone in to retexture them and install recessed lighting in the family room. Once that's done, I can prime and paint the ceilings and walls. Then onto the floors. We'll remove the baseboards, carpeting, tile ourselves but I'm not sure about installing the flooring. BIL said he would come help since he's done some in his house and is a wood working hobbyist. That's if he retires at the end of the year. I refinished all their kitchen cabinets so he owes me. I can do the install part, just not confident in the measuring/cutting part. If BIL is unavailable, I'll ask my nephew if he wants to do it for @ $3,000. That's cheap out here. Most folks are quoting $4 sq. ft. which would be about $7,500.

It happened again so I guess I'm wrong. Stopped out of AFL in IRA day it went x. It went down after that so I was glad I sold. Got $100 dividend anyway. Used to be if you sold on x day, you gave up the dividend because you didn't own day of record. Apparently that's not so today? Or does it just take forever to clear? This is anomaly with just the last 2 dividends. Gonna enjoy this 100 just like the last 300.

Hi all, I didn't realize that I hadn't updated in August. I'm finally almost halfway to my savings goal for this year. I should be at 67%. Hopefully I can catch up. This month I added to my retirement savings. This additional savings is outside of true retirement account because I have already maxed out what I can put in that account this year so this money is also available if I need to quit my job. It turns out that "the powers that be" realize how awful my new boss is and if it were feasible at this time I think they would fire him. They still would have to go through a process of documentation of issues, counseling and giving him time to make corrections. The website won't let me edit my last post. If I could edit it I would clean it up a little.

For the remaining months of 2013 I think I need to re-work what I currently have saved and what I still hope to save before years' end. I did a great job staying under budget for the Canada Harley Trip and the Iceland/Norway Trip, but I'd like to budget for a dog walker for the rest of the year and make a couple of other changes so I think it will be easiest to just kind of start over.

Winner, winner, taco dinner!! I apparently can't handle the "weekly" challenge. Next year I'll just set a goal and transfer what I can, when I can.... I can't even think about next year, let alone 2015. In fact, I can't bring myself to update my most recent savings numbers.
I blame the heat.

I must admit that I've thought about 2014, both for savings and employment goals. Sort of getting tired of short term contracts ~~~ should I strike out on my own again? In that SSA uses the top 35 years, I've got a few I'd like to replace. But self employment might adversely affect the amount I can save

I'm always a pre-planner, so yeah I've been working on next year's goals. It will depend on how things shake out in the first quarter, though. I'm leaning toward doing about half of this year's total goal. We'll see...

I'm posting this a day early [but it is auto-deposited tomorrow night so it'll be there] as I am a volunteer resume reviewer at a Hire-A-Vet Job Fair tomorrow. And I have got the netbook with me today to get all this extraneous stuff done.
Lucy got me thinking about zoning in on next year's goals. I think they are:
- GS1&2 band trip - 1000 [same trip]
- Marching Band x2 - 650
- Property Tax should go up to - 2800
- Earthquake Ins might be - 650
- Roth - 6500
- Trips - 8000
- Holidays - 400
So that means about 20k next year. Of course, this will change

Goals for 2014: Let's see....I'm probably going to be making some adjustments to my regular chart. I sanded, primed and repainted my current patio set so I may eliminate that line item. Flooring for the entire house will still be on the table and it will probably take me into next year to get the ceilings, walls, and trim all primed and painted before I get to the floors. I'm good but slow. Also, friends have invited us to join them on a 21 day hiking trip in Switzerland, Austria and Italy next September. That will make the Vacation 2014 goal skyrocket. And, of course, I anticipate that DD1 could quite possibly get married in 2015. Her BF says its up to her to ask him as he's done so many times and she's never been ready (wanted to finish her PT doctorate, etc.). She doesn't like long engagements so once the proposal is out there, it will be bing, bang, boom!

Hi Savers. I'm kind of crashing and burning in my personal life and need to pass off some of my commitments to get life back in balance. I have totally enjoyed tracking everyone's updates for the past... 4(?) years, and I really want to keep going but I know I need to start delegating my responsibilities before things get really bad. Will you please think about if this is something you'd consider picking up? It doesn't have to take much time and it's a huge service for our group. Thank you!

I've wrapped up 2013 so now I'm rolling over some of the unspent savings to start off 2014. This year's major event will be a trip to Denmark with my mom and aunt in July. Mom and I live in the state of WA and my aunt lives in Florida so I don't have many chances to see her but once every 5 years or so. She says this trip will be a dream come true.

I like separating the icons, but it's hard to tell whose icons (roses, smilies, etc) are whose. Is there a way to widen the columns or put more space between the names? Great job, though!
