OK, last long run before Daytona. Not bad...no sick stomach this time. Still very nervous about my ability to do this in the allotted time, though. But at least today's run (in new running shoes) went well).

Thanks, Steff. I'm not sure about the time frame. I know I can finish; it's the time frame that worries me. I felt good enough to wash my car yesterday afternoon, but by halftime of the Super Bowl, I was pooped.
I started juicing a few months ago: six mornings a week, a have a fresh, raw mix of fruit and vegetable juices with a bit of protein powder for breakfast. I do eat a carb and protein about 90 minutes later, then a normal lunch, small afternoon snack and dinner. I was eating breakfast twice; the juice takes the place of one breakfast. It seems to be helping.

I downloaded an app on my Kindle today on training for a 10K. I am going to give it my all - I hope.
I have thought about checking into juicing. Do you like the mixtures? Do you think it helps keep you healthy? I don't eat very many fruits or veggies so I thought this may help. What type of juicer do you use?

Nancy - how did your half go?!
Still plugging along here. I did 15 miles last week - somewhere between 50/50 and 75/25 running and walking. Being stuck inside on the treadmill sucks hardcore, so I've been walking and doing a lot of incline to mix it up. I can't wait until the weather warms up (obviously not today as it is -13!).
I get sad sometimes because I am still getting emails about my upcoming Disney race - that I deferred until next year! I wish they would stop sending me stuff because I wish I was still going!!!

It's this Sunday. Three days to go. I was hoping to get one more run in tonight, but the weather is going to get very bad in about an hour or so, and stay that way all evening. Aw, Steff, just think...next year, you can do the race with the rugrat. Or better yet, DH takes rugrat and you run!

Not a problem. I did get a short run in last night, before the rains came. Just making sure the new Brooks feel OK. Tonight I pack, do laundry and a quick grocery shopping. Training wise, I've done what I can.

OK, home about 2 hours ago. Time is nothing to brag about, but I did hit all the required marks and kept it right around the 15 minute mile requirement. Starting temp was 37 degrees. And the bridge was horrible. BUT I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome job Nancy!! Congrats!! Thanks. I am walking like Frankenstein today. I did bring the heating pad to work. Surprisingly, I slept well, did not eat much yesterday. I figured I'd devour a pizza, but only wanted a slice and some frozen yogurt. I am getting a lot of fluids and a raw fruit/veggie smoothie in first thing this morning.

Hey Nancy, since you are our resident "swimologist" you don't happen to know of any good websites for training/tips on that do you? The running here has been sporadic due to the work schedule. One week I'll run 3-4 times and then only once the next week. It appears to be slowing down some though so hopefully the long days are about over. Been doing a mixture of running, swimming, weights, and cross training classes. I've lost about 5 lbs so downto 217. The weight is coming off verrry slowly though. Really improving my swimming. Started doing 3 laps and have of it was dog paddling. Now up to 10 laps and the first 4 or so are swimming with the rest half and half. Never have taken classes or anything so I'm now my formis horrible. Yes, but it's an American site: United States Masters Swimming: usms.org I am a member, so I am a bit prejudiced. But for adults who swim, competitively or not, it's a good site. There are other training sites: Rowdy Gaines, the former Olympian, has his own. But USMS is a .org, so they have no financial ax to grind. American Masters swimmers do compete internationally (last year's International Games were in Montreal; the next International Games, which occur in odd years only, will be in 2015 in Europe somewhere.) Senior National Games are also in even years - this year's are in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Senior International Games are in odd years, and I am not sure where 2015's games are; in 2013, they were in Italy. Seniors are anyone over 50, BTW.

Today was the first time I have run outside on pavement since November and boy am I feeling it now! My shins hurt so bad after half a mile - even though I was wearing my calf sleeves that help support them. I am also so fat (for me), but I guess being 5 months pregnant is a decent excuse. But I need to buy some new shorts to run in. Mine are a little too tight and cutting off circulation! And I am so slow! Ahhhhh! I miss my old running self.

Aw, Steph, in a few months, you will be back to your old self, except you will have a few extra wheels! Do you have a running stroller yet?
I've got a 5K this weekend, then a break and then a swim meet and a couple of races in April (not sure where or which ones yet), three races in May (two 5Ks and a five-miler) and that's the end of the season.

I don't have a jogging stroller - not sure if I will get one or not. We live in the country and our road isn't really great for running in general, let alone with a stroller. And I usually only hit the trail one day/week when I am in the midst of hardcore training. Since I only do 4 days/week of running, I usually do 3 days of running over lunch at work and then a fourth on the weekend. And then I go long miles (8-12 for half training, up to 20 for marathon training, which I don't think a kid would sit through!). If I lived somewhere with nicely paved roads, definitely, but we are in tar and chip country! I don't have any upcoming races and doubt I will do any. Maybe a 5k if I am ambitious later on. I am signed up to volunteer for my favorite 10k next month. It was my first race and I have done it two years in a row, and I am sad I am missing it. Actually all my favorite races I have done the last two years and then this year, I am going to miss all of them! Gah!! Who gets pregnant during racing season!?!

You mean, they don't make running strollers with off-trail wheels? Down here, it's racing season October through May, which does not leave a lot of "down time" for pregnant women. I've seen a few run 5K races in the later pregnancy stages, and I'm always pretty impressed. I don't pass judgment, because as long as they're OK with it and their doctor is OK with it, then I don't see any issues. I'm just annoyed that some of them are still faster than me. I'm going to volunteer and work the race this weekend, so I will have to get there around 5 a.m. It will be a long day, because I have appointments after that, plus some freelance, plus food to get and prep for a party on Sunday (I may sneak out of work early Friday and get the food, to save a trip Saturday).

When you run a 10k or a half marathon or marathon do you walk parts of it or run it all? I am not for sure what is expected.

So far I am doing a 4 miler in April and a 5k in May. Both include booze. The April race is a Friday evening run with an after party (it benefits the ALS clinic my FIL was a patient of) and the May race is a vineyard run with a wine tasting afterward. I'm hoping to keep the theme up this year! I sadly won't be around for my favorite 10k this year, but I will just have to find a new fave! I might be thinking a little too ambitiously, but I would like to get up early one morning when we're in Aruba at the end of this month and run a bit. We shall see!

All the races near me are about 2-3 hours away so I will have to get up very early if I plan to attend one.

When I started running 2 years ago I could only run for about 30 seconds at a time. I was really out of shape. I haven't ran consistently since then due to several medical problems but now I am up to 10 minutes at a time. I guess I will see if I can get a whole 5k done without walking any.

At every race there are runners, run/walkers, and walkers. However you can and want to complete a race, go right ahead!
Yay for the half marathon, Ratchets! I wondered how you were going to do the Flying Pig since I know it is in Cincinnati, but then I saw you mentioned running it remotely. I hear that is actually a great race and a top favorite of runners, so hopefully one day I can run it, though Cincy is a fair distance from me.
Took Wednesday off because my shins were killing me. Lack of pavement running for 4 months will do that. Then yesterday I didn't get home until 6:30 and was wiped out. I am going to eat some lunch and then do a few miles.

I do run the entire 10K, and normally all of a half-marathon, unless there are elevation changes. I live in flatland country, so hills kinda hurt.

Oops forgot! I signed up for a half-marathon on May 4th. It's the Cincinnati flying pig run (insert pig jokes here LoL !) and they are letting us enter and run "remotely" I guess you could say. Might have been a bit of a far-reaching goal after taking a little over a month off when I got busy with work, but figured that was the best way to really push myself. Did a 5k this morning and felt pretty good running it, better than expected considering all the time off. Finish time was just under 31 minutes. I was running with a friend though so there were a couple times she slowed down where I would've kep the pace up...no worries though, was just about starting to build the distance back up, and probably would've only been a minute or so faster anyway. Will shoot for five miles on Sunday and try to add two miles a week to get up to the 10-11 mile long run before race time so it isn't as painful as the one in November was. Hey, Cincinnati does have some good BBQ (the Montgomery Inn comes to mind; I buy their sauce whenever I'm in Ohio).

Yes, the are pricey. I remember $15 and $20 races. Now, more like $35 and $40 is the norm for a 5K or a 10K. Half marathons can run close to $200 or more, if it is a "name" race.
And I did well this morning in my 5K, though the event did have some disastrous overtones. For one thing, no finishers medals for the 5K runners, only the 10-mile runners. That's not how the race was advertised. It did not go over well. Not sure if I want to go to the next race board meeting see whose head will be rolling on the floor for this one. It won't be mine...I had no say and no idea as to the change.

Aw, all that comfort food is comforting, Archie. At least, up to a point. While y'all get your running season in gear, ours is beginning to wind down. I have two 5K races in May, and one other possibility that intrigues me: a combined 10K/5K race. You do the 10K first, take a prescribed break and run the 5K.

Archie - I know how you feel. I've been walking (a little - seriously a little - like 5 miles/week), but running got to be too much. It put too much pressure on my belly/pelvis and lower back. Plus I'm bored of the treadmill and the weather here is nice one day and totally crappy the next. Maybe I'll try to run some when the weather gets better. But taking a kiddo (and an extra 20+ pounds of essential baby fluids and such) along for a run isn't easy. I thought I was going to be the cute preggo who only gained weight in her belly and would still be running 5 miles at lunchtime. Not so much. Nancy - that 10k/5k combo sounds fun!

I hate those cute preggos who run like the wind at seven months. Gawd, they make me feel bad. I keep wanting to grab their Supermom capes and yank them.
