I hate those cute preggos who run like the wind at seven months. Gawd, they make me feel bad. I keep wanting to grab their Supermom capes and yank them. Seriously. My friend Sarah has a three month old and ran a 3:38 at Boston a few days ago...

Archie - my husband is putting on sympathy weight too! A 3:38 and has a three month old?!?!?! WTF! She must have ran right up through giving birth and didn't take much time off from training. I couldn't run a 3:38 if my life depended on it, and if I trained hard-core for a year!

That's a ten-minute mile. Not in this lifetime.

One of these days, when you're back to running again and heading this way, we have to get together for at least a training run. Then we can drown our "no go to Boston" sorrows in an adult beverage.

OK, I did something nuts. I just signed up for a 10K/5K combo race. Really. Run a 10K, take a break, then run a 5K.
I am officially whacko.

I had my first 20+ mile running week last week. Yay! This week I'll be lucky if I hit 10 miles, lol (weather is only partly to blame - Saturday I just might not have the time to do anything). I am doing a vineyard 5k on Sunday with a wine tasting afterward. I can't wait for that! Yesterday I managed to register hubs and I for the first ever Philly 10k. It will be run through the neighborhoods in South Philly and Center City, which is a rarity. Most runs are along West River Drive in Fairmount Park (or on Broad Street in the case of the Broad Street Run); this will be the first race held in the heart of the city. It sold out in 70 minutes! It's not until September but I'm excited.

I have a friend who did a Disney half-marathon (the one in January). I did one in February, in Daytona Beach. And seriously, there are people who sign up for multiple races (in the same weekend) at Disney. A 5K on Thursday, 10K on Friday, half-marathon Saturday and the full one on Sunday. That's way more than Goofy.

I wanted to do the 2015 Goofy since it is the anniversary and I know the medal will be awesome. However, I'll be six months out from having a baby and not sure I can swing training for a half/full back to back. Instead I'm doing the Glass Slipper Challenge (10k/half marathon) in February. I don't think I'll ever do the Dopey - I do want to be able to enjoy WDW as well and not have to worry about 2:30 a.m. wake-ups for four days in a row while on vacation. Meghan - Good luck on your races! Glad you got into the one that sold out so quickly!

This weekend's event does offer money to the top finishers and top age group finishers. I won't be a top finisher, but I could do well in my age group. You have to register on the organizer's website to be eligible for the money; not sure if I want to put personal info in yet one more online place.

She called one day and said she wanted us to fly to Florida to do the Disney Marathon because of the Mickey Mouse medal. I told her I didn't. She calls the next day to tell me about the Goofy Challenge. I said, "Okay, that would be worth it. But I am signed up for the Seattle Marathon on Thanksgiving weekend so the Goofy in early January seems like too much, so maybe next year." She calls again to inform me it was the inaugural running of the Goofy Challenge so I agreed to it. Have run maybe a dozen times (times not races) in all the years since.

OK, race done, and dang, I hurt. Twenty MPH headwinds on the route. It was overcast for awhile, which helped, but in the end I got some heat exhaustion anyway.

Final race of my season (I'll start up again in October). 5K race, very, very hot. I'm nursing some road rash from a bike accident yesterday, but overall, not bad for me.

Yikes Nancy - hope the road rash heals soon!
Great job on the 5k!
I'm just waddling along here - I was doing a lot of walking, but then spent all last weekend doing baby shower things and was exhausted and spent this weekend out in the garage helping DH on some woodworking projects and was exhausted.

The worst part of the road rash is actually the bandage...I leave it off at night, but need it during the day, to protect the wound. I still heal pretty fast for an old lady, though. I have a swim meet this Saturday!

Disney just announced a Star Wars race weekend at Disneyland in January.
OMG. I want to go so badly, but I doubt my DH will let me since I'm already signed up to run at Disney World in February! Plus I'll have a 6-month old! Ahhhhh! I have to remember that there will be other years...but I want to do it the first year!!

Wait...they have the Disney Marathon on January 10th, plus another race weekend?! (I only knew about the race on the 10th because my DF, the one who ran it last year, is going back as a spectator.) ETA: I just looked at the official website. Are they out of their Mickey minds on the prices??!!

They have the Disney World Marathon Weekend (Florida), the weekend of the 10th. They just announced this one at Disneyland (California), the weekend of the 17th.
Prices are high for Disney, but quality of medals and shirts is great. I mean, prices are high compared to what I would pay around here (aka, in the sticks) for a race, but if I went into the city and ran a big race like the Pittsburgh Marathon or did one of the Rock 'n Roll races, prices are comparable.

True, but you also have to stay on or pretty close to the Disney property, right? There is that expense on top of the race. It just sounds insane compared to our local marathons, which run $75 to $125. However, the local perks are nowhere near as good, I admit. Hmmmm...there is a 10K on the same weekend you are doing your February race. I checked the pace requirements, and at this moment, I'd have no problem doing it. I'm pretty much done with half-marathons, but anything under 10 miles is still possible. I hate Disney on principle, but at least we'd get to meet if I went.

Ya, it's easy to stay on property because they have buses from all resorts to the races. I have heard of people driving from off-site though, you just have to go early because of all the congestion and roadways shutting down for the race. Plus it's just so early in the morning! I am doing both the 10k and half for the February race (Princess weekend - Glass Slipper Challenge).

And to get everyone in the running mood: This is from CNN:
If you are thinking about skipping your working out, you might change your mind after reading this story. Harriette Thompson, 91, ran her way into the record books on Sunday when she completed the Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon. It took her seven hours, seven minutes and 42 seconds to run the 26.2 mile course. The North Carolina resident set a record for the fastest time for a woman more than 90 years old. The previous record was just under 10 hours. Thompson, who is a cancer survivor, ran to benefit the leukemia and lymphoma society. She didn't run her first marathon until she was 76.
Harriette, you rock!!!!
------------------------------
No plans for February yet, but I'll think about it.

OK, going to try running again this week....first time since my last 5K on Memorial Day. The shredded knee looks a lot better...the skin around the abrasions is not red or inflamed any longer. I've been cleaning it with a mix of witch hazel and hydrogen peroxide and using a prescription called Bactroban.

I hope I'm still alive at 91, forget running marathons! I am on strict "chill out" orders from the doctor so no running/walking/waddling for me. If I have this baby early, like the doctor predicts, I might volunteer for my local 15k at the end of July. I would love to run a 7k in August that benefits the local trail that I do all of my long runs on, but I don't think I'll be back up to that yet.

You're still on for the Disney race in February, right? I'll need to make a decision about doing that. I hate to have to stay on the property, since my niece lives nearby. But my friend who did a Disney last year says it's the best thing, travel-wise.

Ratchets, as long as you are moving forward, it's all good.
I've got no races for the next 2 or 3 months, though I do have swim meets. I will run and swim while in Chicago, mainly because I know all the food will be so good!

6 mile training run tonight. Felt pretty good. Try to get back in shape for an Oct 1/2 marathon.
