Glad for the help! Who knew Little People were so in demand? I would have bought them before Halloween if I had known they'd fly off the shelves this fast. Hopefully Target still has them in stock. I can't get onto their stupid web site, it loads too slow and freezes my work computer.

The secret to a successful christmas on a tight budget is a good mix of those things you had to get them anyway (toothpaste, socks, underwear) mixed up with treats to eat and things they wanted - both in the stocking and under the tree. When getting the socks/underweat/toothpaste - I always tried to take it up a notch. special flavors of toothpaste, more expensive socks/underwear than I would usually buy. mixed in with the on big item, or a few moderate items - it gives that feeling of abundance that christmas is meant to be. I have never given underwear but socks and clothes are always stocking stuffers and Christmas gifts. My DD is a teenager and she started talking about the clothes and boots etc she wanted for Christmas in the summer so evenutally most kids end up liking it. We had almost no money when DD was little. One year I think we had maybe $30 to spend on her other than grocery money that was strictly for food. I swear we had an almost all edible Christmas. My DD had wanted some purple ketchup she had heard about. Well we got that instead of the reg and it was wrapped up in her stocking. DH got peporoni in his stocking. there was a brick of coffee for DH and me. DD got some candy and a small box of tea. As strange as it sounds she loved them almost more than some more expensive gifts in later Christmas'. and still has fond memories of the year she got purple ketchup from Santa. ;D

DS is almost four. In his stocking he will get some Thomas trains, a whoopee cushion, a slinky, one of those rubber band airplane things, an airplane for his bicycle, a flashlight, a small lego kit, and some small games we can play together.
DH will get a golf ball personalizer, Koeze's cream nuts, elk jerky, bacon mints, a special bag that pulls water from small electronics if you them in the toilet, a rubiks cube with the middle missing (he loves tough puzzles), a Nikki Heat book as a gag gift, and a joke calendar.
I love stocking stuffers!

My sis, BIL, two nieces, mom, DH and I stuff each others stockings when we see each other on Christmas Eve. We find it's more fun than the Secret Santa exchange we have.
Items in the past: Mini candles Socks Candy, including foil wrapped coins and mini 4 packs of boxed chocolates Shooters (mini booze bottles-for the adults of course) Mini note pads Glow sticks Themed pens, pencils and mini erasers Lip gloss Stress balls Animal figurines

That's probably what I am going to go with. I'd really like to get a prince in the mix. And Wonder Woman is going to make her way into the castle, I've decided that because now I find it funny.

I love stocking stuffers! Yeah, me too. I try to put some thought into it and don't just fill them with stuff they won't care about, instead I get as many personal gifts as I can that are small enough to fit in a stocking. DH is getting mini booze bottles, beef jerky, a new case for his cell phone that I know he wants, and licorice....his favorite candy.

I already ordered him a phone case bc his otterbox needs a new screen protector. He likes different types of jerky and he is getting a set of shot glasses he asked for last year that mom failed to buy.

I bought that set for my niece on Black Friday at Target - it was only like $12 or something then. She's going to love it! Hope you find one, drama!

Glad for the help! Who knew Little People were so in demand? What's even worse are the little people sets they don't make anymore, but aren't vintage from when I was a kid. I was looking to get my youngest an older supermarket set (since we already have a zoo, a farm, and a house from the other kids either in playmobil or Little people, plus we have a ton of our old FP toys..). Someone put an add out on craiglist and the damn thing was gone within a couple of hours. I'm not keen on getting my youngest character toys until we find out which character she likes. Actually, my youngest may not get any toys period for a few more years...No one every said it would be harder than hell to try to find toys for your last kid, particularly when you already have another child of that gender..

So far for DH's stocking I have a keychain flashlight, a thing of zip strips and a flash drive. I tend to stick with basics for the stocking and just get it a little better. Like getting character band-aids, toothbrushes and toothpaste. DS is three and he's getting coloring books, crayons, matchbox cars, a ball, and washcloth that looks like a soccer ball till you put it in water and it unfolds. I do the same thing for clothes on Christmas. Things that I would normally not get are the kind that end up under the tree.

I try to do what was never done for me. I'm big on stockings. Even DF gets one. Last year he got underwear. This year he is getting special socks, as in 75 bucks for 6 pair and they aren't even dress socks, a big thing of mint tic tacs and massage oil.

Anne are you going to make him try it? I am going to talk DH into trying it, I'm game if he is. I also bought him bacon candy canes. There are six in a box, I figured he could take them to work.

That reminds me either the Spree or Starburst are my brother's favorite candy canes. I need to figure out which.

Sounds like our family tradition was similar to many others. All the old-world "traditional" stuff: oranges, apples, nuts, chocolates, a big fat candy cane, other small food treats, small toys and grooming items. The last couple of years at home (parent's house) we got those Life Saver Sweet Story Books. Anybody remember those?

We were very poor when I was growing up. What I wouldn't have given for a stocking! Sometimes my dad would cut down a tree, but we had no money for presents. My son gets a stocking from Santa, even though he's grown. Condoms, socks, condoms, candy, condoms, cologne, condoms, a hat or scarf. Even the cat gets a stocking, full of toys and cat crack. Whiskas Temptations.

Iggy! Don't forget the chocolate-orange that comes wrapped up in the gold foil (and when opened it's already in neat little slices). ;D
