Why is birth control not taught in the school's there?
I dont' get the entire funding thing . . . .
are you saying the adults are too stupid to know what birth control is without funding?

From the article: It seems like simple logic: Cut womens' access to contraception and abortion services and those same women will naturally have more unplanned pregnancies.
Those are the facts just realized by the Texas state legislature; lawmakers were recently shocked to discover that because of their previous cuts to family planning services, poor women in Texas are projected to deliver almost 25,000 more babies than in previous years.
According to The New York Times, in 2011, Texas slashed $73 million from its family planning budget in an effort to drive Planned Parenthood out of its state. Arguments at the time stemmed from anti-abortion activists who balked at taxpayer dollars going to fund abortion services.
In truth, Planned Parenthood can’t utilize public funds for those procedures. Nonetheless, the urban myth remained, leaving citizens outraged at the thought that they were funding the abortions of poverty-stricken and "socially-irresponsible" women. So the problem is that "poor women in Texas are projected to deliver almost 25,000 more babies than in previous years", but the problem isn't "funding the abortions of poverty-stricken and "socially-irresponsible" women". The problem is that cuts to planned parenthood have "cut womens' access to contraception and abortion services", resulting in more pregnancies, but "Planned Parenthood can’t utilize public funds for those procedures". So they cut public funding to a program whose funds can't be used for abortions and abortifacients, which somehow resulted in 25,000 fewer abortions, leading to 25,000 unwanted babies conceived by "poor women in Texas" who aren't "poverty-stricken and socially-irresponsible". It makes perfect sense.

unplanned pregnancies are what causes abortions . . . that can happen anywhere, even when there is access to contraception.
But I get the point, lack of access to contraception causes unplanned pregnancies.

that entire area of the u.s. I don't even try to understand. They make no sense with most of what they do.
Lack of sex education causes pregnancy. Contraception can be bought anywhere. The poor seem to find money for drugs and alcohol, they can use some of that money on a condom.

But to engage in unprotected sex without any ability to care for a child would be socially irresponsible, and yet the women affected by the cuts aren't poor or socially irresponsible—so says the article.
And if the plan was to "take care of" the unwanted children with abortions, we have it there in black and white that PP funds can't be used for abortions.

Also planned parenthood is not the only place you can get free contraceptives from.

Also planned parenthood is not the only place you can get free contraceptives from. In some places in the US, it is. There are some rural areas where Planned Parenthood is the only place where women can get BCPs without having to pay out a couple hundred $$ for an exam.

The people getting pregnant are middle class or rich who know about birth control, use it and still wind up with Surprise. If they aren't poor or irresponsible that means they had the money to get birth control and were responsible enough to use it.

There are some rural areas where Planned Parenthood is the only place where women can get BCPs without having to pay out a couple hundred $$ for an exam. this area is as dinky as you can get as far as population. The local hospital has a pregnancy program where you can get free birth control. As does the WIC office where many of the single and/or poor mothers go for health check ups on themselves and their children. If someone in the area needs birth control, they will help them get it. And there is planned parenthood. If this dinky area can have three different places to go to, any area should have it. and people wonder why I call that area of the u.s. backwards. It's not a racial slur, it's true. Get into our century people.

I get it too. But I don't agree that it's any governments job to supply populations with birth control. Nor do I agree that a woman who can't keep her knees together should get money LONG TERM just because of that fact. Of course most would disagree (now days).

Decided that it isn't worth fighting over ignorant comments.
BUT this type of thing is reason #580 we will not be retiring in Texas anymore.
